2. Setup and Installation

The Hypro 3350-0035 Nylon Line Strainer is primarily designed for installation on the inlet (suction) side of a pump to prevent debris from entering and damaging the pump. It can also be installed on either the inlet or discharge side of a centrifugal pump.

Installation Steps:

  1. Select Location: Choose an appropriate location in the fluid line, preferably before the pump, to maximize debris filtration.
  2. Ensure Compatibility: Verify that the strainer's flow capacity and pressure rating are suitable for your specific application.
  3. Prepare Connections: Ensure the 3/4" female NPT threads on the strainer align correctly with your piping.
  4. Secure Installation: Tighten connections securely to prevent leaks. Use appropriate thread sealant if necessary.
  5. Initial Check: After installation, slowly introduce fluid into the system and check for any leaks or improper flow.

Note: These strainers are NOT designed for fatigue-loading applications, such as those found in water-softeners.

3. Operation

Once installed, the Hypro Nylon Line Strainer operates by allowing fluid to pass through its 20 mesh stainless steel screen, trapping solid particles and debris. This continuous filtration protects downstream components from damage and ensures cleaner fluid flow within the system.

The strainer is designed to handle pressures up to 150 psi at 70° F and 100 psi at 125° F, with a maximum fluid temperature of 140° F. Regular monitoring of system performance and fluid clarity is recommended to determine when maintenance is required.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning of the strainer is crucial to maintain optimal performance and prevent clogs. The design allows for easy cleaning without removing the entire unit from the line.

Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Depressurize System: Before beginning any maintenance, ensure the fluid system is depressurized and fluid flow to the strainer is stopped.
  2. Unscrew Bowl: Carefully unscrew the transparent bowl from the cap of the strainer.
  3. Remove Screen: Gently remove the stainless steel mesh screen from inside the bowl.
  4. Flush Sediment: Flush the screen and the inside of the bowl with clean water to remove any accumulated sediment and debris. A soft brush may be used for stubborn deposits.
  5. Inspect Components: Inspect the screen for any damage or tears, and the O-ring for wear or cracking. Replace if necessary.
  6. Reassemble: Fit the cleaned screen back into the flange within the bowl. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated.
  7. Tighten Bowl: Screw the bowl back onto the cap, tightening it firmly by hand to ensure a leak-free seal. Do not overtighten.
  8. Restore Pressure: Slowly restore fluid pressure to the system and check for any leaks.

5. Troubleshooting

If the Hypro Nylon Line Strainer is not performing as expected, consider the following common issues:

  • Reduced Flow: This is typically caused by a clogged screen. Refer to the "Maintenance and Cleaning" section to clean the screen.
  • Leaks: Check the tightness of the bowl and ensure the Buna O-Ring is properly seated and not damaged. Replace the O-ring if it shows signs of wear. Verify that NPT thread connections are properly sealed.
  • Improper Filtration: Ensure the correct mesh screen is installed and that it is not damaged or torn.
  • System Pressure Issues: Confirm that the operating pressure and temperature of your system are within the specified limits of the strainer (150 psi @ 70° F, 100 psi @ 125° F; Max. Fluid Temperature: 140° F).

If issues persist after performing these checks, consult a qualified technician or contact Hy-Pro customer support.
