3. Setup
3.1 Initial Power On
Connect the router to a power source using the provided USB cable. The power source can be a laptop USB port, a power bank, or a 5V/2A DC adapter (sold separately). The indicator lights on the router will illuminate upon successful power-on.

3.3 Connecting to the Internet
The GL-AR300M16 offers multiple methods to connect to the internet:
- Cable: Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to the GL-AR300M16's WAN port.
- Repeater: Extend an existing Wi-Fi signal. This is useful in hotels or public networks.
- USB Modem: Connect a 3G/4G USB modem to the router's USB port.
- Tethering: Connect your smartphone via USB to share its mobile data connection.

3.3.1 Repeater Mode Setup
To use the router as a repeater, navigate to the 'Internet' section in the admin panel, select 'Repeater', and click 'Scan' to find available Wi-Fi networks. Select your desired network and enter the password if required. If a captive portal does not appear, you may need to temporarily disable 'DNS Rebinding Attack Protection' in 'More Settings > Custom DNS Server' to access the portal, then re-enable it.

4. Operating Modes
The GL-AR300M16 supports various operating modes to suit different networking needs:
- Router Mode: Creates a new private Wi-Fi network from a wired internet connection.

5.1 VPN Client & Server
The router comes with OpenVPN and Wireguard VPN client and server pre-installed, offering compatibility with over 30 VPN service providers. This feature enhances network security and privacy.

5.2 Quality of Service (QoS)
Configure Quality of Service (QoS) settings to prioritize network traffic for specific applications or devices, ensuring faster internet speeds when needed most. This allows for managing upload and download speed limits.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Firmware Updates
The GL-AR300M16 runs on OpenWrt, an open-source operating system. Regularly check for and install firmware updates via the admin panel to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Refer to the GL.iNet website for the latest firmware and update instructions.
6.2 Resetting the Router
To reset the router to its factory default settings, locate the 'Reset' button (refer to Figure 2). With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the indicator lights change, then release. The router will restart with default settings.

If you cannot access the admin panel at 192.168.8.1, ensure your device is connected to the router's Wi-Fi or via an Ethernet cable. Try clearing your browser's cache or using an incognito/private browsing window. Verify your computer's IP settings to ensure it's receiving an IP address from the router (e.g., 192.168.8.x).
