3. Safety Information

Always observe basic safety precautions when using power tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.

General Safety Rules:

  • Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use hearing protection when operating the tool for extended periods. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Battery Pack Use and Care: Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Do not use battery packs with power tools for which they are not designed.

4. Setup and Assembly

4.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the BC660 18V Charger to a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Slide the 1.5 Ah SlimPack Battery into the charger until it clicks into place.
  3. Observe the indicator lights on the charger. A solid green light typically indicates a full charge. Refer to the charger's specific instructions for detailed light patterns.
  4. Once fully charged, remove the battery from the charger.

4.2 Installing the Battery

  1. Align the battery pack with the base of the drill/driver handle.
  2. Slide the battery into the tool until it locks securely into place with a click. Ensure it is fully seated to prevent accidental detachment during operation.

4.3 Installing Drill Bits/Driver Bits

  1. Ensure the drill/driver is off and the battery is removed for safety.
  2. Grasp the rear portion of the chuck (the part closest to the drill body) with one hand.
  3. Rotate the front portion of the chuck counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws.
  4. Insert the desired drill bit or driver bit into the chuck, ensuring it is centered and inserted as far as possible without touching the chuck jaws.
  5. Rotate the front portion of the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws firmly around the bit. The keyless ratcheting chuck will provide an audible click when sufficiently tightened.
  6. Pull on the bit to ensure it is securely fastened before operation.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Speed Settings

The drill/driver features a two-speed transmission, controlled by a switch located on top of the tool:

  • Speed 1 (Low Speed, 0-450 RPM): Ideal for high-torque applications such as driving large fasteners or drilling large diameter holes in tough materials.
  • Speed 2 (High Speed, 0-1,700 RPM): Suitable for fast drilling of smaller holes and general driving tasks.

Select the appropriate speed before starting the tool.

5.2 Clutch Settings (Torque Adjustment)

The 20+1 clutch settings allow you to adjust the torque output, preventing over-driving screws or damaging materials. The settings are adjusted by rotating the collar behind the chuck.

  • Settings 1-20: Lower numbers provide less torque, suitable for smaller screws or softer materials. Higher numbers provide more torque for larger screws or harder materials.
  • Drill Symbol Setting: This setting bypasses the clutch for maximum torque, intended for drilling applications.

Experiment with settings on scrap material to find the optimal torque for your task.

5.3 Forward/Reverse Rotation

The direction of rotation is controlled by a switch located above the trigger. Push the switch to the left for forward (clockwise) rotation and to the right for reverse (counter-clockwise) rotation. Center the switch to lock the trigger and prevent accidental starting.

5.4 Operating the Drill/Driver

  1. Ensure the battery is installed and the correct bit is secured.
  2. Select the appropriate speed and clutch setting for your application.
  3. Position the bit on the workpiece.
  4. Squeeze the trigger to start the tool. The built-in LED light will illuminate the work area. The trigger is variable speed; apply more pressure for higher speed.
  5. Apply steady, even pressure to the tool. For drilling, allow the tool to do the work. For driving, stop when the fastener is flush or at the desired depth.
  6. Release the trigger to stop the tool.

  • Always disconnect the battery pack before cleaning.
  • Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the tool. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating. Use compressed air if necessary to clear vents.

6.2 Storage

  • Store the drill/driver, batteries, and charger in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Store batteries fully charged to prolong their lifespan.
  • Use the provided carrying bag for organized and protected storage.

6.3 Battery Care

  • Do not store batteries in temperatures above 120°F (50°C) or below -4°F (-20°C).
  • Avoid fully discharging the battery before recharging.
  • If a battery pack is damaged, do not attempt to repair it. Contact BOSCH service for assistance.
