5. Installation Instructions
This guide outlines the steps for replacing your existing door glass with the ODL Clear Door Glass kit. It is recommended to have an assistant for this process.
5.1. Preparation
- Inspect Existing Glass: If your existing glass is broken but still intact, apply duct tape or packing tape across the entire broken surface. This helps to laminate the glass and prevent chips from falling out during removal.
- Gather Tools: Ensure all required tools and safety gear are readily available.

5.2. Removing Existing Glass
- Remove Screw Covers: Carefully remove the screw covers from the internal frame of your existing door glass. A drywall screw or similar small tool can be used to gently pry them out.
- Remove Screws: Using a Phillips head screwdriver or power drill, remove all screws securing the internal frame. Have your assistant stand on the outside of the door to support the exterior frame and glass, especially if the old adhesive is weak.
- Remove Internal Frame: Once all screws are removed, carefully detach the internal frame.
- Score Paint Line and Loosen Adhesive: Use a utility knife to score along the paint line where the exterior frame meets the door. This helps to loosen any old adhesive and prevent paint damage.
- Remove Existing Door Glass: With your assistant supporting the exterior frame and glass from the outside, carefully push the existing glass panel out from the inside.
5.3. Preparing for New Glass Installation
- Clean Opening: Use your utility knife or a putty knife to scrape away any remaining old adhesive or sealant from the door opening. Ensure the surface is clean and smooth for proper bonding of the new glass.
5.4. Installing New Door Glass
- Insert New Glass: With your assistant guiding from the outside, carefully insert the new ODL door glass panel into the opening from the exterior side. Ensure it is centered and seated correctly.
- Install Internal Frame: Position the internal frame over the new glass panel from the inside. Align the screw holes.
- Secure Frame with Screws: Insert the provided screws into the internal frame. If using a power drill, set it to the lowest clutch setting to avoid overtightening. Hand-tighten the screws for the final turns to ensure a snug fit without stripping or damaging the frame.
- Install Screw Covers: Press the screw covers firmly into place over the screw heads until they are flush with the frame.

6. Maintenance
To keep your ODL Clear Door Glass looking its best, regular cleaning is recommended.
- Cleaning Glass: Use a standard window cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the glass surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the glass.
- Cleaning Frame: The molded plastic frame can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the frame and seal for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter with door glass:
- Hazy Appearance or Moisture Inside Glass (Seal Failure): This indicates a compromised seal in the insulated glass unit, leading to a loss of energy efficiency. The only solution is to replace the entire glass unit.
- Broken Glass: If the glass is cracked or shattered, it poses a safety risk and compromises insulation. Immediate replacement of the glass unit is necessary. Follow the installation instructions carefully, paying extra attention to safety precautions for handling broken glass.
- Drafts Around Glass: Ensure the frame screws are tightened appropriately (without overtightening) and that the factory-applied seal on the outer frame is properly seated against the door.
