Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your gimbal mount:

  1. Choose a Mounting Location: Select a flat, stable surface on your boat or desired area that can support the weight of the SOLIX 12 unit and the mount. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the unit to pivot and for cable routing.
  2. Mark Drill Holes: Place the gimbal mount on the chosen surface and use a pencil or marker to mark the locations for the mounting hardware through the pre-drilled holes in the base of the mount.
  3. Drill Pilot Holes: Using an appropriate drill bit size for your mounting hardware and surface material, carefully drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Exercise caution to avoid damaging underlying components or wiring.
  4. Secure the Mount: Align the gimbal mount with the pilot holes. Insert the mounting hardware (screws, washers, nuts) and tighten them securely. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the mount or the mounting surface.
  5. Attach the SOLIX 12 Unit: Align the mounting points on your SOLIX 12 unit with the pivot points on the gimbal mount. Insert the gimbal mounting knobs through the unit and into the mount, then tighten the knobs to secure the unit.
  6. Adjust Viewing Angle: Loosen the gimbal mounting knobs slightly to adjust the viewing angle of your SOLIX 12 unit. Once the desired angle is achieved, tighten the knobs firmly to lock the unit in place.

Operating the Gimbal Mount

The Humminbird SOLIX 12 Gimbal Mount is designed for simple operation:

  • Angle Adjustment: To change the viewing angle of your SOLIX 12 display, loosen the two large knurled knobs on either side of the mount. Adjust the display to the desired tilt, then firmly retighten both knobs to secure the display in position.
  • Removal for Storage/Security: For temporary removal of the SOLIX 12 unit, fully unscrew and remove the two knurled knobs. Carefully lift the unit off the gimbal mount. Reinstall by reversing these steps.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and proper function of your gimbal mount, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the mount with a damp cloth to remove dirt, salt spray, or debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish.
  • Hardware Inspection: Periodically check all mounting hardware and the gimbal knobs for tightness. Vibrations from boat operation can cause fasteners to loosen over time. Tighten as necessary.
  • Corrosion Prevention: The mount is constructed from durable materials, but in marine environments, it is advisable to rinse with fresh water after exposure to saltwater to minimize corrosion.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your gimbal mount, consider the following:

  • Unit Wobbles on Mount: Ensure the gimbal mounting knobs are fully tightened. If the issue persists, check the main mounting hardware securing the base to the surface.
  • Difficulty Adjusting Angle: Loosen the gimbal knobs sufficiently before attempting to adjust the angle. If the knobs are stiff, ensure no debris is caught in the threads.
  • Mount Feels Loose on Surface: Re-check and tighten all screws securing the mount base to your chosen surface. If the surface material is compromised, consider relocating the mount or reinforcing the mounting area.
