4. Setup Guide

4.1. Battery Installation

The Colemeter Digital Sound Level Meter requires batteries for operation (batteries are not included). To install the batteries:

  1. Locate the battery door (09) on the back of the device.
  2. Slide or open the battery door.
  3. Insert the required batteries (e.g., AAA batteries, typically 3x 1.5V AAA) into the compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery door securely.

4.2. Initial Power On

After installing the batteries, press the Power Switch / Backlight Button (05) to turn on the device. The LCD display (02) will light up, and the meter will be ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Measurement

Once powered on, the meter will immediately begin displaying the current sound level in dBA. Position the microphone (01) towards the sound source you wish to measure.

5.2. Using MIN/MAX Function

To view the minimum or maximum sound level recorded during a measurement session:

  1. While the meter is measuring, press the MIN/MAX Key (04).
  2. The display will show the minimum (MIN) or maximum (MAX) value recorded since the meter was turned on or the function was reset.
  3. Press the MIN/MAX Key again to cycle through MIN, MAX, and current readings.

5.3. Using Data Hold Function

To freeze the current reading on the display:

  1. Press the HOLD Key (03) during measurement. The displayed value will be held.
  2. Press the HOLD Key again to release the hold and resume live measurement.

5.4. Backlight Control

To activate or deactivate the display backlight, briefly press the Power Switch / Backlight Button (05) while the device is on.

5.5. Automatic Shut-off

The meter is designed to automatically turn off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. To resume operation, simply press the Power Switch / Backlight Button (05) again.

6. Maintenance and Care

6.1. Cleaning

To ensure accurate readings and prolong the life of your meter:

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Keep the microphone area clean and free from dust or debris.

6.2. Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the meter in a cool, dry place. Remove batteries if storing for more than a month to prevent leakage.

6.3. Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator on the LCD display shows low power, replace the batteries promptly to ensure continued accurate operation. Refer to section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.
