Important Compatibility Note:
While this carburetor kit is designed for a range of HOMELITE models, it is crucial to verify compatibility with your specific equipment. Amazon compatibility information may not be 100% accurate and is for search purposes only. Before purchase and installation, carefully compare the provided images, model numbers, and OEM part numbers with your existing components. For proper fitment verification, you may consult your original equipment manual or contact the manufacturer with photos/model numbers of your old parts.
Safety Precautions:
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, during installation and maintenance.
- Ensure the engine is turned off and cooled down before performing any work on the carburetor or fuel system.
- Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.
- Work in a well-ventilated area and away from open flames or sparks when handling fuel.
- Properly dispose of old fuel, filters, and other components according to local regulations.

3. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to replace the carburetor and associated components on your HOMELITE string trimmer.
3.1 Disassembly of Old Components:
- Prepare the Trimmer: Ensure the trimmer engine is cool and the fuel tank is empty. Place the trimmer on a stable, clean surface.
- Remove Air Filter Cover: Locate and remove the air filter cover, typically held by clips or screws. Remove the old air filter.
- Disconnect Fuel Lines: Carefully disconnect the fuel lines from the old carburetor and the fuel tank. Note which line is the feed and which is the return.
- Remove Carburetor: Unscrew the nuts holding the carburetor to the engine block. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor. Remove the old carburetor and any old gaskets.
- Remove Old Spark Plug: Disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug.
- Remove Old Fuel Filter: If accessible, remove the old fuel filter from inside the fuel tank by pulling the fuel line out.
3.2 Installation of New Components:
- Install New Fuel Filter: Attach the new fuel filter to one end of a new fuel line. Feed this line into the fuel tank, ensuring the filter rests at the bottom of the tank.
- Connect New Fuel Lines: Connect the new fuel lines to the new carburetor, matching the feed and return lines as noted during disassembly.
- Install New Gaskets and Carburetor: Place the new gaskets onto the engine block, ensuring the holes align correctly. Mount the new carburetor onto the engine block, aligning it with the gaskets and mounting studs. Secure it with the nuts.
- Connect Throttle Cable: Reconnect the throttle cable to the new carburetor. Ensure it operates smoothly.
- Install New Air Filter: Insert the new foam air filter into its housing.
- Install New Spark Plug: Hand-tighten the new spark plug into the engine, then use a wrench for a final snug turn (do not overtighten). Reconnect the spark plug wire.
- Install Primer Bulb: If replacing, press the new primer bulb firmly into its housing on the carburetor.
- Reattach Air Filter Cover: Secure the air filter cover.

4. Operating Instructions
After successful installation, follow your trimmer's standard starting procedure. The new carburetor may require minor adjustments for optimal performance.
4.1 Initial Start-Up:
- Fill with Fuel: Add the correct fuel mixture (gasoline and 2-stroke oil) to the fuel tank.
- Prime the Carburetor: Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible in the bulb and flows freely.
- Set Choke: Move the choke lever to the 'Full Choke' position.
- Start Engine: Pull the starter rope firmly until the engine attempts to start or 'burps'.
- Adjust Choke: Move the choke lever to the 'Half Choke' or 'Run' position and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
- Warm-Up: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before engaging the throttle.
4.2 Carburetor Adjustment:
Your new carburetor may come pre-adjusted, but fine-tuning is often necessary for optimal performance. Use the provided Pac-Man adjustment tool for this process.
- Idle Speed Adjustment: This screw controls the engine's RPM at idle. Turn clockwise to increase idle speed, counter-clockwise to decrease. Adjust until the engine idles smoothly without the cutting attachment spinning.
- Low Speed (L) Adjustment: This screw controls the fuel-air mixture at low RPMs. Adjust for smooth acceleration from idle to full throttle.
- High Speed (H) Adjustment: This screw controls the fuel-air mixture at high RPMs (full throttle). Adjust for maximum power without the engine bogging down or running too lean (which can cause damage).
Note: Carburetor adjustment can be complex. If you are unsure, consult a professional or refer to detailed online tutorials specific to your trimmer model.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your carburetor kit components ensures longevity and optimal performance of your string trimmer.
- Air Filter: Inspect the air filter regularly (e.g., every 10-20 hours of operation). Clean or replace the foam air filter if it is dirty or clogged. A clean air filter is crucial for proper engine breathing and fuel mixture.
- Fuel Filter: Replace the fuel filter annually or if you notice fuel delivery issues. A clogged fuel filter can restrict fuel flow to the carburetor.
- Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug annually or every 50 hours of operation. Replace if electrodes are worn, fouled, or damaged. Ensure the new spark plug is correctly gapped (pre-gapped plugs are often included in kits).
- Fuel Lines: Inspect fuel lines periodically for cracks, hardening, or leaks. Replace immediately if any damage is found to prevent fuel leaks and ensure proper fuel delivery.
- Primer Bulb: Replace the primer bulb if it becomes cracked, stiff, or loses its priming ability.
6. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and potential solutions:
- Engine Won't Start:
- Check fuel level and ensure fresh fuel mixture.
- Ensure primer bulb is fully primed.
- Check spark plug for spark; replace if necessary.
- Verify choke setting.
- Inspect fuel lines and filter for blockages or leaks.
- Engine Starts, Then Dies:
- Adjust idle speed.
- Check for proper fuel flow; fuel filter might be clogged.
- Air filter might be dirty.
- Carburetor low-speed mixture may need adjustment.
- Lack of Power / Engine Bogs Down:
- Carburetor high-speed mixture may need adjustment.
- Check air filter for blockage.
- Ensure fuel lines are not kinked or restricted.
- Fuel Leaks:
- Inspect all fuel line connections for tightness.
- Check primer bulb for cracks.
- Ensure carburetor gaskets are properly seated and not damaged.
If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is recommended to seek assistance from a qualified service technician.
