Zippo Windproof Lighter Street Chrome 207 User Manual

Model: Street Chrome 207

1. Setup and Initial Use

Your Zippo Windproof Lighter is shipped without lighter fluid due to shipping regulations. It must be filled with Zippo premium lighter fluid (sold separately) before first use.

1.1 Unboxing and Components Overview

Upon unboxing, you will find the Zippo lighter and an instruction manual. It is important to read the manual thoroughly before use.

The Zippo lighter consists of two main components: the case and the inside unit. The case is made up of a lid and bottom joined by a hinge. The bottom stamp on the case identifies it as a genuine Zippo Windproof Lighter.

The inside unit includes the chimney (featuring Zippo's 3-2-3 hole pattern), wick, flint wheel, felt pad, fuel chamber (containing packing material), flint spring and screw, and the flint.

1.2 Filling Your Zippo Lighter

  1. Remove the inside unit from the case.
  2. Turn the inside unit over and lift the felt pad to reveal the packing material in the fuel chamber. If the pad is hard to lift, use an unfolded paperclip or small tool.
  3. Slowly saturate the packing material with Zippo premium lighter fluid. Stop filling when the fluid reaches the top of the packing material or begins to change color.
  4. Do not overfill. Overfilling can cause the lighter to leak fuel.
  5. Avoid getting fluid on your skin, as it is a skin irritant. If contact occurs, wash the affected area promptly with mild soap and water.
  6. Insert the inside unit back into the case.
  7. Wipe any excess fluid from the lighter and your hands before igniting.
  8. Ensure the fuel can is closed and there is no spilled fuel in the vicinity before igniting.

1.3 Safety Tips

  • WARNING: Keep out of the reach of children.
  • The lighter is not child resistant.
  • Ignite the lighter away from your face and clothing.
  • All new Zippo Windproof Lighters are empty and must be filled before use.
  • When filled, the lighter will contain flammable fluid.
  • Never expose the lighter to heat above 122°F (50°C) or to prolonged sunlight.
  • Never puncture or put the lighter in fire.
  • Be sure the flame is out after use.
  • This lighter does not self-extinguish; close the cover to put it out.

2. Operating Your Zippo Lighter

2.1 Igniting the Lighter

Once filled, use your thumb to strike the flint wheel in a downward motion to create a spark. If a flame does not appear, repeat the motion.

2.2 Extinguishing the Flame

Once a flame has appeared and you are finished using it, close the lid to extinguish the flame. Remember, Zippo lighters do not self-extinguish. Depending on the duration of use, the lighter may be hot to touch, so exercise caution.

2.3 Refilling the Lighter

Lighter fluid will evaporate even when the lighter is not in use. It is a good practice to refill your lighter before each outing. Follow the steps in section 1.2 for refilling.

3. Maintenance

3.1 Wick Maintenance

Initially, a new wick is white. Over time, the wick will turn black from carbon buildup, which can reduce performance. When this happens, you need to trim the wick.

  1. Using a pair of tweezers or needle-nose pliers, gently pull the wick up until a clean, white portion appears. Grab the wick as far down as possible to avoid ripping it.
  2. Trim the end of the wick evenly with the top of the chimney using scissors or wire cutters.

This should be performed once or twice a year. Each wick is almost 4 inches in length, so after 2 to 3 trimmings, you will need to replace the wick.

Replacing the Wick

The wick should be changed if the lighter does not light properly or if the ignition process has to be repeated multiple times.

  1. Remove all components from the fuel chamber: the flint screw, felt pad, packing material, and the old wick.
  2. Insert a new wick either downward through the chimney or upward through the bottom of the fuel chamber. Bend the top portion of the wick over the chimney to hold it in place during assembly.
  3. Carefully reinstall the packing material in the exact same order as it was removed. Replace the packing material in small pieces, interweaving the wick between the padding in a serpentine or 'S' pattern. The goal is to ensure the wick has as much contact with the packing material as possible.
  4. Reinstall the felt pad over the flint tube and secure it with the flint spring.
  5. Trim the wick evenly with the chimney height and reinstall the insert into the case.

3.2 Flint Replacement

Flints need to be replaced approximately every few weeks for an average user.

  1. Remove the inside unit from the case.
  2. Using a small screwdriver or a coin, slowly remove the flint spring. The spring has tension, so be careful it doesn't fly away.
  3. Remove any remaining piece of flint by gently tapping the inside unit on a hard surface. Remove any stubborn flint slivers or residue with an unfolded paperclip.
  4. Insert a new flint into the brass-colored flint tube. Do not confuse the brass tip on the end of the flint spring with a flint.
  5. Replace the flint spring and turn clockwise until tight. Ensure the screw is tightened so the lid can fully close. A tight seal helps delay fluid evaporation.

You can keep extra flints under the felt pad for future use.

4. Troubleshooting

  • Lighter does not light properly: Check the wick for carbon buildup and trim if necessary (refer to Section 3.1). Ensure there is sufficient lighter fluid (refer to Section 1.2). Check the flint and replace if worn or missing (refer to Section 3.2).
  • Flint wheel binds after new flint is installed: Turn the flint wheel backwards a few times to clear any obstruction.
  • Lid does not close fully: Ensure the flint spring screw is tightened completely.
