Setup Guide

1. Unboxing and Initial Preparation

  • Carefully remove the printer from its packaging.
  • Remove all orange protective tapes and plastic pieces from the printer, including those on the ink cartridge area.
  • Lift and carry the unit by placing your hands on each side to avoid damage to plastic components.

2. Ink Cartridge Installation

  • Open the printer's access cover.
  • Install the included full set of ink cartridges (PG-240/CL-241) into their respective slots. Ensure they click into place.

3. Power Connection

  • Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a power outlet.
  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

4. Software and Driver Installation

  • Insert the Setup CD-ROM into your computer's drive and follow the on-screen instructions. This is the recommended method for a smooth setup.
  • Alternatively, download the necessary drivers and software from the official Canon support website.
  • For mobile devices, download the Canon PRINT App from your device's app store.

5. Wireless Network Setup

  • Follow the prompts on the printer's LCD display or the software installation guide to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
  • The printer supports various connectivity options including Wi-Fi, AirPrint™, Google Cloud Print, and Bluetooth.
  • Ensure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same network for seamless wireless printing.
  • The printer is compatible with Windows (10, 8.1, 7 SP1), Mac OS X (v10.10.5 - macOS v10.12 Sierra), iOS, Android™, Windows 10 Mobile, and Amazon Fire devices.

Operating Instructions

1. Loading Paper

  • The PIXMA TS5120 features both front and rear paper support.
  • For standard paper, use the front paper cassette. Do not overload the tray and ensure the paper guard is properly secured.
  • For envelopes or thicker media, use the rear paper feed.
  • Supported media sizes include 8.5 x 11 inch (standard letter) and 4 x 6 inch photo paper.

2. Printing Documents and Photos

  • From your computer or mobile device, select the document or photo you wish to print.
  • Choose the Canon TS5120 from your list of available printers. For wireless printing on some systems, ensure you select the XPS version of the printer if available.
  • Adjust print settings such as paper type, size, and quality as needed. The printer supports borderless printing for photos.
  • The printer supports automatic duplex (two-sided) printing.
  • You can print directly from cloud services and social media platforms via the Canon PRINT App.
  • The printer is compatible with voice commands via Alexa for convenient printing.

3. Copying Documents

  • Place the document face-down on the scanner glass.
  • Use the printer's control panel to select the "Copy" function.
  • Adjust settings such as number of copies, color/black & white, and reduction/enlargement (25% - 400%).
  • Press the Start button to begin copying.

4. Scanning Documents

  • Place the document face-down on the flatbed scanner glass.
  • Select the "Scan" function from the printer's control panel or initiate the scan from your computer/mobile device using the Canon PRINT App.
  • Choose your desired scan destination (e.g., computer, smartphone, cloud).

Maintenance

1. Ink Cartridge Replacement

  • When an ink cartridge is low or empty, a notification will appear on the printer's display or your computer.
  • Replace empty cartridges with genuine Canon PG-240 (black) and CL-241 (color) ink cartridges for optimal performance.

2. Print Head Alignment and Cleaning

  • If print quality degrades (e.g., streaks, faded colors), perform a print head alignment or cleaning from the printer's maintenance menu or the printer software on your computer.

3. General Cleaning

  • Regularly wipe the exterior of the printer with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Keep the scanner glass clean to ensure clear scans and copies.

Troubleshooting

  • Paper Feed Issues: Ensure paper is loaded correctly in the tray and not overloaded. Adjust paper guides.
  • Connectivity Problems: Verify Wi-Fi connection on both printer and device. Restart router and printer. Ensure correct printer driver/XPS version is selected.
  • Print Quality: Perform print head cleaning or alignment. Check ink levels. Ensure appropriate print settings (e.g., paper type, quality) are selected for the media being used.
  • Ink Absorber Warning: If you receive an ink absorber warning, this indicates the printer has reached a predetermined print count. Consult Canon support for service options.
