2. Safety Information

Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the pump is connected to a properly grounded 115-volt AC outlet. Do not operate the pump with a damaged cord or plug. Keep all electrical connections dry.
  • Water Safety: This pump is designed for transferring clean water. Do not use it for flammable liquids, corrosive chemicals, or water containing large particulates.
  • Priming: Always prime the pump by filling the pump housing with water before plugging it in and attempting to pump. Operating the pump dry can cause damage.
  • Non-Submersible: This pump is NOT submersible. Do not immerse the pump in water.
  • Secure Connections: Ensure all hose connections are tight and sealed to prevent leaks and maintain proper suction.
  • Supervision: Do not leave the pump unattended during operation. Keep children and pets away from the operating area.

5. Setup

5.1 Priming the Pump

It is crucial to prime the pump before its first use and whenever the pump housing is empty. Priming ensures the pump can create the necessary suction to draw water.

  1. Locate the prime plug on the top of the pump housing.
  2. Unscrew the prime plug using a span or appropriate tool.
  3. Carefully fill the pump housing completely with clean water until it overflows.
  4. Screw the prime plug back in tightly. Use the provided sealing tape on the prime plug threads to ensure a watertight seal.

5.2 Connecting Hoses

Proper hose connection is vital for efficient pump operation.

  1. Identify the INLET and OUTLET ports on the pump.
  2. Attach the suction hose (inlet) to the INLET port and the discharge hose (outlet) to the OUTLET port.
  3. Use the provided brass connectors and sealing tape on all threaded connections to ensure a secure and leak-free seal.
  4. For the inlet hose, ensure it is rigid or reinforced to prevent collapse under suction.
  5. Attach the hose strainer to the end of the suction hose that will be submerged in the water source. This prevents debris from entering the pump.
  6. The maximum distance to the water source for suction is 15 feet horizontally, and the maximum vertical suction depth is 3 feet for a 1-inch inlet hose. A larger inlet hose size will allow for a lower vertical suction depth.
Important notes for pump setup and operation

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 General Operation

Once the pump is primed and hoses are securely connected:

  1. Ensure the suction hose is fully submerged in the water source and the discharge hose is directed to the desired location.
  2. Plug the pump into a grounded 115-volt AC power outlet. The pump will begin to operate.
  3. Monitor the water flow. If the flow is not constant, check for air leaks in the inlet connections and tighten them as necessary.
  4. When finished, unplug the pump from the power outlet.
  5. Drain any remaining water from the pump and hoses to prevent freezing or corrosion, especially before storage.

6.2 Applications

This versatile utility pump is ideal for a variety of water transfer tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Sprinkling lawns and garden irrigation
  • Emptying or filling stock tanks
  • Removing standing water from flooded areas (e.g., basements, construction sites)

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pump.

7.1 Cleaning

  • After each use, especially if pumping dirty water (though not recommended for heavily soiled water), flush the pump with clean water to remove any residue.
  • Clean the hose strainer regularly to prevent blockages and maintain efficient suction.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the pump with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

7.2 Brush Replacement

The motor brushes are wear-and-tear components that may need replacement over time to maintain high performance. A set of extra replacement brushes is included with your pump.

  1. Disconnect the pump from the power source.
  2. Locate the brush caps on the motor housing.
  3. Unscrew the brush caps and carefully remove the old brushes.
  4. Insert the new replacement brushes, ensuring they are seated correctly.
  5. Screw the brush caps back on tightly.
