3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove the cash register from its packaging. Place the unit on a stable, flat surface, ensuring adequate ventilation around the device.

3.2 Power Connection

  1. Connect the power adapter to the DC IN port located on the rear of the cash register.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. Ensure the power switch (usually located on the side or rear) is in the "ON" position.

3.3 Battery Installation (for memory backup)

The Royal 140DX requires 3 AA batteries (not included) for memory backup. These batteries preserve programmed data in case of a power outage.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the unit.

5.1 Basic Sale Transaction

  1. Enter the item price using the numeric keypad.
  2. Press the corresponding DEPARTMENT key (e.g., 1/9, 2/10).
  3. Repeat for additional items.
  4. Press TOTAL to finalize the sale and print a receipt.

5.2 Programming Departments

Departments allow you to categorize sales. Each department can have specific tax settings.

  1. Turn the Mode Switch to PROG.
  2. Enter the desired price (e.g., 1500 for $15.00).
  3. Press the DEPARTMENT key you wish to program (e.g., 1/9).
  4. Press TOTAL to save.
  5. Return the Mode Switch to REG for normal operation.

5.3 Programming PLUs (Price Look-Ups)

PLUs are used for items with fixed prices, allowing for faster entry.

  1. Turn the Mode Switch to PROG.
  2. Enter the PLU number (e.g., 001).
  3. Press the PLU key.
  4. Enter the item price.
  5. Press the DEPARTMENT key associated with the PLU.
  6. Press TOTAL to save.
  7. Return the Mode Switch to REG.

5.4 Using Clerk IDs

To assign a sale to a specific clerk:

  1. Before starting a transaction, press the CLERK key.
  2. Enter the Clerk ID number (1-8).
  3. Proceed with the sale as usual.

5.5 Setting Tax Rates

The 140DX supports up to 4 tax rates.

  1. Turn the Mode Switch to PROG.
  2. Press the TAX SHIFT key.
  3. Enter the tax rate percentage (e.g., 500 for 5.00%).
  4. Press the corresponding TAX key (e.g., Tax 1, Tax 2).
  5. Press TOTAL to save.
  6. Return the Mode Switch to REG.

5.6 Voiding Transactions

To correct an error during a transaction:

  1. If an item was entered incorrectly, press the VOID key.
  2. Enter the incorrect amount.
  3. Press the DEPARTMENT key associated with the voided item.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Unit

Regular cleaning helps maintain the appearance and functionality of your cash register.
