Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Brentwood Classic Popcorn Machine, Model PC-488R. This hot air popcorn popper is designed to provide a convenient way to prepare popcorn without oil. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the appliance and retain it for future reference.
Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions before use.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

- A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

- Main Unit: The base of the popcorn machine containing the heating element and fan.
- Popping Chamber: The area where the popcorn kernels are heated and popped.
- Lid/Cover: A dual-purpose lid that covers the popping chamber and can be used as a measuring scoop and butter melting tray.
- On/Off Switch: Located on the side of the unit to control power.
- Power Cord: For connecting the appliance to an electrical outlet.
Setup
- Unpack the popcorn machine and all its components. Remove any packaging materials.
- Wipe down the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Wash the lid/cover in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.
- Place the popcorn machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the unit.
- Ensure the On/Off switch is in the "OFF" (O) position before plugging in the unit.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to prepare fresh hot air popcorn:
- Measure Kernels: Use the dual-purpose lid as a measuring scoop. Fill it with popcorn kernels (approximately 1/2 cup for 8 cups of popped popcorn). Do not overfill, as this can affect popping performance and cause unpopped kernels.
- Add Kernels: Pour the measured kernels into the popping chamber. Do not add oil, butter, or any other ingredients to the popping chamber. This is a hot air popper and does not require oil.
- Position Lid: Place the lid/cover securely on top of the popping chamber. Ensure the chute is facing towards the front, directing popped corn into a bowl.
- Place Bowl: Position a large heat-resistant bowl directly under the popping chute to collect the popped corn.
- Start Popping: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Flip the On/Off switch to the "ON" (I) position. The machine will begin to heat up and pop corn.
- Popping Process: Popcorn will begin to pop and dispense into your bowl within 2-3 minutes. Some unpopped kernels may be ejected during the process.
- Turn Off: Once the popping sound stops and no more popcorn is being ejected, immediately flip the On/Off switch to the "OFF" (O) position and unplug the unit from the outlet.
- Serve: Carefully remove the lid/cover (it will be hot). You may add melted butter, salt, or other seasonings to your popped corn as desired.

Important: Allow the unit to cool for at least 10-15 minutes between batches to prevent overheating and ensure optimal performance.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your popcorn machine.
- Unplug and Cool: Always ensure the appliance is unplugged from the electrical outlet and completely cool before cleaning.
- Remove Lid: Carefully remove the lid/cover.
- Clean Lid: Wash the lid/cover in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. It is not dishwasher safe.
- Clean Popping Chamber: Wipe the inside of the popping chamber with a dry cloth to remove any unpopped kernels or debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the main unit in water.
- Clean Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly.
- Cord Storage: For convenient storage, wrap the power cord around the designated area on the back or bottom of the unit.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your popcorn machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
