1. Product Overview
The 7artisans 25mm F1.8 is a compact and lightweight manual focus prime lens designed for Sony E-Mount APS-C cameras. It features a wide F1.8 aperture, making it suitable for low-light photography and creating images with shallow depth of field. The lens construction includes 7 elements in 5 groups and a 12-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Attaching the Lens
- Ensure your camera is powered off.
- Align the red dot on the lens barrel with the corresponding red dot on your camera's lens mount.
- Gently insert the lens into the camera mount and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place. Do not force the lens.
2.2 Camera Settings
Since this is a manual lens with no electronic contacts, your camera will not detect the lens automatically. You must enable the 'Release Shutter Without Lens' option in your camera's menu to allow it to take photos.
- Navigate to your camera's menu.
- Locate the 'Setup' or 'Custom Settings' menu.
- Find and enable the 'Release Shutter Without Lens' or 'Shoot without lens' option. Refer to your camera's manual for the exact location of this setting.
Note for Full-Frame Sony Cameras (A7, A7II, A7R, A7RII, A7S, A7SII): This lens is designed for APS-C sensors. Before use, switch your camera to APS-C frame mode to avoid vignetting and ensure optimal image quality.

3. Operating the Lens
3.1 Manual Focus
The 7artisans 25mm F1.8 is a manual focus lens. To achieve sharp focus:
- Look through your camera's viewfinder or LCD screen.
- Rotate the focus ring (the ring closer to the front of the lens) until your subject appears sharp.
- Utilize your camera's focus peaking and magnification assist features for more precise focusing, especially at wider apertures.
3.2 Aperture Control
The lens features a manual aperture ring (the ring closer to the camera body) with markings from F1.8 to F16. This allows you to control the depth of field and the amount of light entering the lens.
- Rotate the aperture ring to select your desired F-stop.
- A wider aperture (smaller F-number like F1.8) allows more light and creates a shallower depth of field (more background blur).
- A narrower aperture (larger F-number like F16) allows less light and creates a deeper depth of field (more of the scene in focus).

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces to clean the lens elements.
- For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of lens cleaning fluid applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
- Use a blower brush to remove dust particles before wiping to prevent scratching.
4.2 Storage
- Always attach the front and rear lens caps when the lens is not in use.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Consider using a dehumidifying cabinet or silica gel packets in humid environments to prevent mold growth.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Camera Not Recognizing Lens / Shutter Not Releasing
Issue: The camera displays an error message like "Lens not attached" or the shutter will not release.
Solution: This is normal for manual lenses without electronic contacts. Ensure you have enabled the 'Release Shutter Without Lens' option in your camera's menu as described in Section 2.2.
5.2 Soft Corners or Vignetting
Issue: Images appear soft in the corners or show darkening (vignetting) around the edges.
Solution: This lens is designed for APS-C sensors. If using a full-frame camera, ensure it is set to APS-C crop mode. Some degree of corner softness or vignetting, especially at wide apertures, can be a characteristic of certain lens designs and may be correctable in post-processing software.
5.3 Barrel Distortion
Issue: Straight lines in images appear curved, particularly noticeable in architectural or geometric subjects.
Solution: Barrel distortion is a common optical characteristic of wide-angle lenses. This can often be corrected using lens profile corrections in image editing software like Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.
