2.1 Key Features

  • Powerful 22.5 cm³ (22.5 cc) engine.
  • 600 mm (23.6 inch) cutting blade.
  • Ergonomic and rotatable rear handle for versatile cutting angles.
  • Lightweight design at 4.6 kg for improved maneuverability.

3. Setup

3.1 Fuel Mixing

The Kasei SLP 500 operates on a two-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture of unleaded gasoline and two-stroke engine oil. Refer to the engine oil manufacturer's instructions for the exact mixing ratio, typically 25:1 or 50:1 (gasoline:oil). Use fresh, high-quality unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 89 or higher.

  1. Obtain a clean, approved fuel mixing container.
  2. Pour half of the required gasoline into the container.
  3. Add the correct amount of two-stroke engine oil according to the recommended ratio.
  4. Close the container and shake it thoroughly to mix the fuel and oil.
  5. Add the remaining gasoline and shake again.
  6. Label the container with the date of mixing. Do not store mixed fuel for more than 30 days.

3.2 Filling the Fuel Tank

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Move to a well-ventilated outdoor area.
  3. Carefully open the fuel tank cap.
  4. Pour the mixed fuel into the tank, avoiding overfilling. Leave a small air gap.
  5. Securely close the fuel tank cap.
  6. Wipe away any spilled fuel before starting the engine.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Starting the Engine

  1. Place the hedge trimmer on a flat, stable surface, ensuring the blades are clear of any obstructions.
  2. Set the ignition switch to the 'ON' position.
  3. Engage the choke lever (usually to the 'CLOSED' or 'START' position).
  4. Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible in the return line.
  5. Hold the hedge trimmer firmly with one hand on the front handle and the other on the starter grip.
  6. Pull the starter cord slowly until resistance is felt, then pull sharply and quickly until the engine fires (usually 1-3 pulls).
  7. Once the engine fires, disengage the choke lever (to the 'OPEN' or 'RUN' position).
  8. If the engine does not start after a few pulls with the choke open, re-engage the choke and repeat the process.
  9. Allow the engine to warm up for 30-60 seconds before beginning operation.

4.2 Stopping the Engine

  1. Release the throttle trigger.
  2. Allow the engine to idle for a few seconds.
  3. Move the ignition switch to the 'OFF' or 'STOP' position.

4.3 Cutting Techniques

  • Maintain a firm grip on both handles.
  • Keep the blades parallel to the cutting surface for an even cut.
  • Use a sweeping motion, moving the trimmer steadily along the hedge.
  • For vertical cuts, utilize the rotatable rear handle to achieve a comfortable and controlled position.
  • Avoid cutting branches thicker than the recommended capacity (typically 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch, depending on wood hardness).
  • Do not force the blades through thick material; this can damage the trimmer and cause kickback.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your hedge trimmer. Always ensure the engine is off and cool, and the spark plug cap is disconnected before performing any maintenance.

5.1 General Cleaning

  • After each use, clean the exterior of the trimmer with a damp cloth.
  • Remove any accumulated debris, leaves, or twigs from the engine cooling fins and air intake vents.

5.2 Blade Maintenance

  • Clean the blades after each use to remove sap and debris. Use a stiff brush and a suitable cleaning agent.
  • Lubricate the blades regularly with light machine oil or a specialized blade lubricant to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
  • Inspect blades for damage or dullness. Sharpen or replace blades as needed by a qualified service technician.

5.3 Engine Maintenance

  • Air Filter: Check and clean the air filter regularly (e.g., every 10-15 hours of operation). A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance. Clean with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry completely before reinstallation.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug periodically (e.g., every 25-30 hours). Clean any carbon deposits and adjust the gap if necessary. Replace if worn or fouled.
  • Fuel Filter: Check the fuel filter inside the fuel tank annually or if fuel delivery issues occur. Replace if clogged.
