2. Safety Information

Always read the product label and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and eye protection. Ensure adequate ventilation during application. Keep out of reach of children and pets. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

3. Setup and Preparation

3.1 Surface Preparation

For optimal adhesion, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and other contaminants. Remove any loose paint, rust, or debris. For porous surfaces, a primer may be beneficial, though typically not required for standard duct materials.

3.2 Tools Required

  • Putty knife or trowel for application.
  • Stiff brush (e.g., chip brush) for spreading and smoothing, if preferred.
  • Cleaning rags and water for cleanup.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Gloves, safety glasses.

3.3 Environmental Conditions

Apply in temperatures between 40°F (4°C) and 100°F (38°C). Avoid application in direct sunlight or on extremely hot surfaces, which can cause premature skinning. Ensure good ventilation in the work area.

4. Operating and Application

4.1 Application Method

  1. Stir the sealant thoroughly before use to ensure a consistent texture.
  2. Apply a generous, continuous bead or layer of DP1010 sealant over the joint, seam, or penetration using a putty knife, trowel, or brush.
  3. Ensure complete coverage, overlapping the seam or joint by at least 1 inch on both sides.
  4. For flexible duct connections, apply the sealant around the collar and secure the flexible duct with a tie or clamp as per manufacturer's instructions, then apply an additional layer of sealant over the connection.
  5. Smooth the sealant to achieve a uniform finish and ensure maximum contact with the surfaces. The smooth consistency of DP1010 allows for excellent coverage and ease of application.

4.2 Drying and Curing

Drying time will vary depending on temperature, humidity, and film thickness. Typically, the sealant will be tack-free within 1-2 hours and fully cured within 24-48 hours. Allow sufficient time for curing before subjecting the sealed area to pressure or stress. Refer to the product label for specific drying and curing times under various conditions.

4.3 Performance

DP1010 is designed to withstand up to 15 inches water column pressure and exceeds all SMACNA seal and pressure classes when applied correctly.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Storage

Store the sealant in its original, tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. Do not allow the product to freeze. Properly stored, the sealant maintains its properties for an extended period.

5.2 Tool Cleanup

Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with warm water and soap. Once cured, the sealant is difficult to remove and may require mechanical means or specialized cleaners.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Poor Adhesion: Ensure surfaces were clean, dry, and free of contaminants before application. Apply within recommended temperature ranges.
  • Uneven Application: Stir sealant thoroughly before use. Use appropriate tools (putty knife, trowel, or brush) and apply with consistent pressure.
  • Slow Drying/Curing: High humidity, low temperatures, or excessively thick application can prolong drying times. Ensure adequate ventilation.
