3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The LiON battery pack is designed to fit securely into the back of the radio. Ensure the battery is oriented correctly and gently push it into place until it clicks. The radio's design includes a rubberized seal around the battery compartment to enhance its water resistance.

Video 3.1: Battery Installation and Charging Overview. This video demonstrates how to install the LiON battery pack into the radio and how to use the included desktop charger for both the battery alone and the radio with the battery installed.

3.2. Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the LiON battery pack. You can charge the battery either directly in the drop-in charger or by placing the entire radio unit (with battery installed) into the charger. Connect the AC charger or 12V DC charger to the drop-in charger. A red indicator light typically signifies charging, turning green when fully charged.

3.3. Attaching the Belt Clip and Wrist Strap

The spring-loaded belt clip can be attached to the back of the radio for convenient carrying. The wrist strap can be threaded through the designated loop on the belt clip to prevent accidental drops.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off

To power on the radio, rotate the volume knob clockwise until the display illuminates. To power off, rotate the volume knob counter-clockwise until the display turns off.

4.2. Channel Selection and Transmission

Use the channel up/down buttons to select desired VHF channels. The radio supports channels in the US, Canada, and internationally. For transmission, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button located on the side of the radio. Release the button to listen.

4.3. Key Features

  • Bluetooth and GPS: The radio features built-in GPS to display your coordinates and automatically send your exact location with DSC (Digital Selective Calling) calls. Bluetooth connectivity allows you to make and receive calls directly from your radio, keeping your phone safe and dry.
  • Rewind-Say-Again: This feature automatically records the last 20 seconds of incoming transmissions, allowing you to replay missed calls or unclear messages, especially useful in noisy conditions.
  • Selectable Power: Choose between 1, 3, or 6 watts of output power for short-range or long-range communication, optimizing battery life and transmission strength as needed.
  • NOAA Weather Channels: Access 24-hour NOAA weather channels for real-time weather alerts. The radio provides an audible tone and visual alarm to warn you of threatening weather conditions.
  • Burp Feature: This function vibrates the water out of the speaker grill, improving speaker performance after the radio has been submerged.
  • Instant Channel 16 Access: Quickly access Channel 16 for emergency communications.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning

Clean the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the radio thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely to prevent salt buildup and corrosion.

5.2. Submersible Design

The MR HH600 is fully submersible and waterproof to IPX8 (JIS8) standards. This means it can withstand submersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Always ensure the battery compartment is securely closed and the antenna is properly attached before exposing the radio to water.
