2. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your solar charge controller. Follow the steps below carefully. The following diagram provides an overview of the connections and the proper order.

Figure 3: Installation diagram illustrating the connection order for the load, battery, and solar panel to the MPPT controller.
- Connect the Load: As per the diagram, connect the load with the corresponding red (positive) and black (negative) cables first. Ensure these connections are secure and sealed with tape if necessary.
- Connect the Battery: Connect the battery with the corresponding red (positive) and black (negative) cables. The load will become active once the battery is connected. Note: Connect to the battery first when operating the system. The battery must be protected by a fuse; otherwise, the battery may be damaged.
- Connect the Solar Panel: Connect the solar panel with the corresponding red (positive) and black (negative) cables. The controller will begin charging after approximately 2-30 seconds. Note: The PV panel voltage should not exceed 60V for a long time.
Important Considerations:
- Ensure the wire length between the battery and controller is as short as possible to minimize voltage drop.
- Recommended minimum wire sizes: 8/10A: 2.5mm²; 15A: 4mm².
- Keep children away from the solar system during and after installation.

3. Operating Instructions
The GreeSonic MPPT Solar Charge Controller operates automatically once properly installed. It features automatic 12V/24V system voltage recognition and a multi-stage charging process to optimize battery life and performance.
LED Status Indications:
The controller provides visual feedback through LED indicators to show its operational status:
- Normal Operation: If the green LED is on or flashes, and the red LED is off, this indicates normal operation and charging.
- Faults & Alarms: The controller can display various kinds of status indications and running status (LED indications and faults & alarms). Refer to the troubleshooting section for specific fault indications.
Charging Process:
The controller utilizes a four-stage charging method to efficiently charge your battery and prolong its lifespan:
- MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking): The controller actively tracks the maximum power point of the solar panel to extract the most power available.
- Boost Charge: Charges the battery at a higher voltage to bring it up to full charge quickly.
- Equalization Charge: Periodically overcharges the battery slightly to balance cell voltages and prevent sulfation.
- Float Charge: Maintains the battery at a safe voltage level once fully charged, preventing overcharging.
4. Maintenance
The GreeSonic MPPT Solar Charge Controller is designed for durability and minimal maintenance due to its robust aluminum casing and IP67 waterproof rating. However, periodic checks can ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the controller and its connections for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose wiring. Ensure all cables are securely fastened.
- Cleanliness: While waterproof, keeping the exterior clean from excessive dust or debris can help with heat dissipation. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning.
- Temperature Compensation: The externally installed temperature sensor ensures high-accurate temperature compensation, automatically adjusting charging parameters based on ambient temperature. Ensure the sensor is not obstructed.
- Environmental Protection: Although waterproof, avoid prolonged submersion or exposure to extreme conditions beyond its specified operating temperature range (-35°C to +60°C).
5. Troubleshooting
The GreeSonic MPPT Solar Charge Controller is equipped with multiple protection features to ensure safe operation. If you encounter issues, refer to the following information:
Common Protections and Their Indications:
- Over-charge Protection: Prevents the battery from being charged beyond its safe voltage limit (e.g., 15.5V for 12V system, 31.0V for 24V system). The controller will stop charging.
- Over-discharge Protection: Disconnects the load when the battery voltage drops below a safe level (e.g., 11.4~12.8V for 12V system, 22.8~25.6V for 24V system) to prevent deep discharge and battery damage.
- Overload Protection: Protects against excessive current draw from the load. The controller may temporarily disconnect the load.
- Electronic Short-circuit Protection: Automatically disconnects in case of a short circuit in the load or wiring.
- Reverse Connection Protection: Protects the controller and battery from damage if the battery or solar panel is connected with reverse polarity.
- TVS Lightning Protection: Provides protection against lightning strikes.
If the controller's LEDs indicate a fault (e.g., a red LED is on or flashing, or the green LED is off when it should be on), first check all connections for proper polarity and security. Verify that the solar panel voltage is within the specified limits (not exceeding 60V for extended periods) and that the battery voltage is within its operational range. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
