4. Product Overview

4.1 Handset

The handset features a clear display and an intuitive keypad for easy navigation and calling.

4.2 Base Unit

The base unit connects to your telephone line and power supply, and serves as the charging station for the handset.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the handset.
  2. Insert the provided NiMH battery pack, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2 Connecting the Base Unit

  1. Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the LINE port on the base unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the telephone line cord to your telephone wall socket.
  3. Plug the power adapter into the DC IN port on the base unit.
  4. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet.

5.3 Charging the Handset

Place the handset on the base unit. The handset will begin charging. For optimal battery performance, charge the handset for at least 16 hours before initial use.

5.4 Registering Additional Handsets (Optional)

Your Alcatel Smile phone supports up to 5 handsets per base. If you have additional handsets, refer to the specific registration instructions in their respective manuals or the on-screen prompts on your primary handset.

6. Operating Your Phone

6.1 Making Calls

  • Dialing: Enter the phone number using the keypad, then press the Call button.
  • Pre-dialing: Enter the number first, review it on the display, then press the Call button.
  • Redial: Press the Redial button to access the list of the last 10 dialed numbers. Select a number and press Call.

6.2 Receiving Calls

When the phone rings, press the Call button to answer. The flashing LED on the handset indicates an incoming call. The caller's name and/or number will be displayed if Caller ID is active.

6.3 Phonebook

The phonebook can store up to 50 names and numbers. To access, add, or edit entries:

  1. Press the MENU/OK button.
  2. Navigate to 'Phonebook' using the arrow keys.
  3. Select 'Add New' or 'View' to manage entries.

6.4 Call Log

The phone stores a log of the last 20 incoming calls with date and time. New, unanswered calls will be indicated. To view:

  1. Press the MENU/OK button.
  2. Navigate to 'Call Log' using the arrow keys.
  3. Select an entry to view details or call back.

6.5 Hands-free Function

During a call, press the Hands-free button (often integrated with the Call button or a dedicated speaker icon) to activate speakerphone mode. There are 5 adjustable hands-free volume levels.

6.6 Intercom and Conference Calls

If you have multiple registered handsets:

  • Intercom: Press the INT button (often combined with the End Call button) and dial the desired handset number.
  • 3-Way Conference: During an external call, you can initiate an intercom call to another handset and then join all three parties into a conference.

6.7 Settings

Access the menu to adjust various settings:

  • Language: Select from 8 available languages.
  • Ringtones: Choose from 10 ringtones (5 classic, 5 polyphonic) and set 5 volume levels (plus off). You can also assign different ringtones for external/internal calls and VIP callers.
  • Alarm: Set an alarm using the alarm function.
  • Keypad Lock: Activate or deactivate the keypad lock to prevent accidental dialing.

7. Maintenance

  • Clean the phone with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the charging contacts on the handset and base are clean and free of debris.
  • If the phone will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery pack.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
No dial tone Check if the telephone line cord is securely connected to both the base unit and the wall socket. Ensure the power adapter is plugged in.
Handset not charging Ensure the handset is correctly placed on the base unit. Check that the power adapter is connected. Clean the charging contacts.
Poor call quality / Static Move closer to the base unit. Ensure there are no large metal objects or other electronic devices interfering with the signal.
Handset displays "Out of Range" Move the handset closer to the base unit. The maximum indoor range is approximately 50 meters.
Low battery indicator Place the handset on the base unit to charge.
