Introduction
This instruction manual provides important information for the safe and efficient operation of your Schabus GX-CO2-30 Carbon Dioxide Sensor. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use, and keep it for future reference. The GX-CO2-30 is an external NDIR sensor designed for detecting carbon dioxide (CO2) in various applications, such as beverage dispensing systems and wine cellars, when connected to a compatible Schabus gas alarm unit like the GX-A1 or GX-HS.
Safety Instructions
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.
- Ensure the device is installed by qualified personnel in accordance with local regulations and standards.
- Do not expose the sensor to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct water contact unless specified for such conditions.
- Regularly check the sensor for any signs of damage. Do not use a damaged device.
- The sensor requires a 12-24 VDC power supply, typically provided by the main gas alarm unit (e.g., GX-A1/GX-HS). Ensure correct voltage and polarity.
- This device is designed to detect CO2. It does not detect other gases.
- Do not attempt to open or repair the sensor yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
Product Overview
The Schabus GX-CO2-30 is an external NDIR (Non-Dispersive Infrared) carbon dioxide sensor designed to work with compatible Schabus gas alarm systems. It provides accurate CO2 detection and features visual indicators for operational status.
Key Features:
- External NDIR sensor for CO2 detection.
- LED display for operation, error, and alarm status directly on the sensor.
- Measurement range: approximately 400 ppm to 5% CO2.
- Designed for use in beverage dispensing systems, wine cellars, and similar environments.
- Connection cable can be extended.
Components:
The GX-CO2-30 sensor unit includes:
- Sensor housing with NDIR CO2 sensor.
- Integrated connection cable.
- Status LEDs (OPERATE, ERROR, SYSTEM).

Setup and Installation
The GX-CO2-30 sensor is designed to be connected to a compatible Schabus gas alarm control unit (e.g., GX-A1, GX-HS). Refer to the manual of your main control unit for specific connection instructions.
- Mounting Location: Choose a mounting location where CO2 accumulation is most likely to occur. Since CO2 is heavier than air, it tends to settle in lower areas. Mount the sensor at a height appropriate for the application (e.g., near the floor in a wine cellar, or at the level of potential leaks in a beverage dispensing system). Ensure the location is free from drafts, direct sunlight, and sources of vibration.
- Mounting the Sensor: Use the provided mounting screws and dowels to securely attach the sensor to a wall or suitable surface. The sensor should be mounted vertically with the cable entry pointing downwards to prevent moisture ingress.
- Electrical Connection: Connect the sensor's integrated cable to the designated sensor input terminals on your Schabus gas alarm control unit. Pay close attention to the wiring diagram provided in the control unit's manual to ensure correct polarity and connection. The sensor requires a 12-24 VDC power supply.
- Cable Extension: If necessary, the sensor connection cable can be extended. Use appropriate shielded cable with sufficient gauge for the length of the extension to avoid signal degradation. Consult a qualified electrician for cable extension.
- Initial Power-Up: Once the sensor is securely mounted and connected to the control unit, power on the main gas alarm system. The sensor will undergo a self-calibration process upon initial power-up.

Operation
Once installed and powered, the GX-CO2-30 sensor continuously monitors the CO2 concentration in its environment. Its status is indicated by the LEDs on the front panel and communicated to the connected Schabus gas alarm control unit.
LED Indicators:
- OPERATE (Green LED): Indicates normal operation. This LED should be steadily lit when the sensor is functioning correctly.
- ERROR (Yellow LED): Indicates a fault or malfunction within the sensor. If this LED is lit, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
- SYSTEM (Red LED): Indicates an alarm condition (high CO2 concentration detected). When this LED is lit, the connected control unit will also trigger its alarm (acoustic and optical).
Alarm Thresholds:
The alarm thresholds for CO2 concentration are typically set on the main Schabus gas alarm control unit. Refer to the control unit's manual for details on configuring these thresholds. The GX-CO2-30 sensor will trigger an alarm when the detected CO2 level exceeds the programmed threshold.
Testing the Sensor:
To test the sensor's functionality, press the test button (if present) on the sensor or initiate a test sequence from the main control unit. This will typically simulate an alarm condition and verify the sensor's response and the control unit's alarm functions. Always refer to the control unit's manual for specific testing procedures.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the long-term reliability and accuracy of your GX-CO2-30 sensor.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the sensor housing with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or water directly on the sensor. Ensure the ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
- Calibration: NDIR CO2 sensors typically require periodic calibration to maintain accuracy. The recommended calibration interval for the GX-CO2-30 is usually indicated on the device itself (e.g., "next calibration: 11/2025" as seen in images). Contact Schabus or an authorized service provider for professional calibration services.
- Functional Test: Perform regular functional tests as described in the "Operating" section to ensure the sensor and alarm system are working correctly.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the connection cable for any signs of damage, wear, or fraying. Replace damaged cables immediately.

Troubleshooting
If your GX-CO2-30 sensor is not functioning as expected, consult the following table before contacting support.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| ERROR LED is lit. | Internal sensor fault or malfunction. | Power cycle the main control unit. If the error persists, contact Schabus support or an authorized service technician. |
| SYSTEM LED is lit (Alarm). | High CO2 concentration detected. | Ventilate the area immediately. Identify and address the source of CO2 leakage. Do not re-enter the area until CO2 levels are safe. |
| No LEDs are lit. | No power to the sensor or faulty connection. | Check the power supply to the main control unit. Verify the sensor's connection cable is securely attached to the control unit and that wiring is correct. Inspect the cable for damage. |
| Sensor gives false alarms. | Sensor exposed to high CO2 sources (e.g., exhaled breath, dry ice, fermentation) or sensor requires calibration. | Ensure the sensor is not placed near known CO2 sources. If the issue persists, the sensor may require calibration. |
