5. Setup and Installation

The B801 Rope Ring is designed for recessed mounting on a service body or commercial work truck.

Required Tools:

  • Drill
  • Appropriate drill bits (for 3/8-inch bolts and the recessed pan)
  • Wrench for 3/8-16 nuts
  • Measuring tape
  • Marking tool

Installation Steps:

  1. Select Location: Choose a mounting location on your vehicle's service body or truck bed that is structurally reinforced and can safely support the intended tie-down loads. Ensure there is sufficient clearance beneath the mounting surface for the carriage bolts and nuts.
  2. Mark Drilling Points: Position the rope ring's steel pan on the desired surface. Use a marking tool to accurately mark the four corner bolt holes and the central opening for the ring assembly. Refer to the dimensional drawing (Figure 2) for precise measurements.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill four holes for the 3/8-16 carriage bolts. Drill a larger central opening for the recessed portion of the rope ring assembly. Ensure all holes are clean and free of burrs.
  4. Insert Rope Ring: Place the rope ring assembly into the prepared opening, ensuring the steel pan sits flush against the mounting surface.
  5. Secure with Hardware: Insert square 3/8-16 x 2-1/4 inch carriage bolts (not included) through the mounting holes. Secure with appropriate washers and nuts from beneath the mounting surface. Tighten all fasteners securely, but do not overtighten.
  6. Verify Installation: Confirm that the rope ring is firmly attached and does not wobble or shift. The ring should pivot freely.

6. Operation and Usage

The Buyers Products B801 Rope Ring provides a secure anchor point for tie-down straps, ropes, or chains to secure cargo.

  • Always ensure that the total weight of the cargo being secured does not exceed the Working Load Limit (WLL) of 2,000 lb (907 kg) for a single rope ring. When using multiple tie-down points, distribute the load evenly.
  • Use appropriate tie-down equipment that is in good condition and rated for the load being secured.
  • Periodically check the tightness of the mounting bolts, especially after initial installation and heavy use.

WARNING: This product is intended for cargo securement only. DO NOT use for overhead lifting, towing, or any application where human safety depends on the integrity of the rope ring.

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Visually inspect the rope ring and its mounting hardware before each use. Look for signs of wear, cracks, bends, corrosion, or loose fasteners.
  • Cleaning: Clean the rope ring periodically to remove dirt, debris, and corrosive materials. A mild soap and water solution followed by thorough drying is recommended.
  • Corrosion Protection: As this is a non-plated iron product, it may be susceptible to rust. Consider applying a rust-inhibiting coating or paint if desired, ensuring it does not interfere with the ring's movement.
  • Replacement: If any damage or excessive wear is detected, immediately replace the rope ring. Do not attempt to repair damaged units.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Rope ring is loose after installation.
Solution: Check the tightness of the mounting bolts and nuts. Ensure they are properly torqued. Verify that the mounting surface is not compromised.
  • Issue: Rope ring shows signs of rust.
Solution: This is a non-plated iron product, and surface rust can occur. This typically does not affect structural integrity if caught early. Clean the rust and apply a rust-inhibiting paint or coating. If rust is severe or structural, replace the unit.
  • Issue: Ring does not pivot freely.
Solution: Check for debris or obstructions in the pivot mechanism. Clean thoroughly. Ensure the mounting bolts are not overtightened, which could deform the pan.
