3.3 Installation Steps

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker controlling the area where the fixture will be installed and turn off the power. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare Ceiling Opening: Use the provided template (if applicable) or measure and mark a 4-1/4 inch (108mm) diameter hole in the ceiling. Carefully cut the opening using a utility knife or drywall saw.

  4. Connect Wiring: Open the junction box cover on the housing. Remove the appropriate knockout. Using wire strippers, strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the supply wires. Utilize the Slide-N-Side connectors to connect the supply wires to the housing wires (black to black, white to white, ground to ground). Ensure connections are secure. Close the junction box cover.
  5. Insert Housing: Carefully push the housing up through the ceiling opening.
  6. Secure Housing: Engage the four remodel clips by pushing them outwards until they firmly grip the ceiling material. Ensure the housing is flush with the ceiling surface.
  7. Install Trim (Sold Separately): Follow the instructions provided with your chosen 4-inch recessed light trim. The adjustable socket bracket allows for proper lamp positioning within various trim styles.
  8. Restore Power: Once the housing and trim are securely installed, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.

4. Operating Instructions

The HALO E4RTATSB recessed housing operates like any standard lighting fixture once installed. Ensure that the correct lamp type and wattage are used as specified by the trim manufacturer and the housing's ratings.

  • Lamp Compatibility: This housing is compatible with EISA compliant tungsten-halogen, incandescent, CFL, and LED lamps. Always verify the lamp's compatibility with your chosen trim and the housing's electrical ratings.
  • Dimming: If using dimmable lamps and a compatible dimming trim, ensure a suitable dimmer switch is installed. Refer to the lamp and dimmer manufacturer's instructions for proper operation.
  • Thermal Protection: The integral thermal protector will automatically shut off power to the lamp if excessive heat builds up due to improper lamping or insulation contact. If this occurs, allow the fixture to cool, then check for obstructions or incorrect lamp usage before restoring power.

5. Maintenance

Minimal maintenance is required for the HALO E4RTATSB recessed housing. Regular cleaning and lamp replacement are the primary tasks.

  • Cleaning: Ensure power is off before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the trim and housing components. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that may damage the finish.
  • Lamp Replacement: Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Allow the lamp to cool completely before attempting to remove it. Follow the lamp manufacturer's instructions for safe removal and installation. Ensure the replacement lamp is of the correct type and wattage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the fixture for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, turn off power and consult a qualified electrician.
