Zigbee Door/Window Sensor XHS2-TY / XHS2-UE User Manual

Models: XHS2-TY, XHS2-UE

1. Introduction

The Zigbee Door/Window Sensor (models XHS2-TY, XHS2-UE) is designed to enhance the security of residential premises by monitoring the opening and closing of doors and windows. This sensor system consists of two main components: a sensor unit and a magnet. When the magnet is separated from the sensor unit, a signal is transmitted to your connected home security system, enabling various automation services such as triggering alarms or activating convenience lighting based on system settings. This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your sensor.

2. Safety Information

  • Battery Safety: Use only the specified battery type (CR2450). Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations. Keep batteries out of reach of children.
  • Installation: Ensure the mounting surface is clean and dry before installation. Avoid installing the sensor in areas with extreme temperatures or high humidity.
  • Interference: Keep the sensor away from strong electromagnetic fields, which may interfere with its operation.
  • Tampering: Do not attempt to open or modify the sensor unit beyond battery replacement. Tampering may void the warranty and compromise security.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • Zigbee Door/Window Sensor Unit (Main unit with battery compartment)
  • Magnet (Smaller unit)
  • Mounting Hardware (e.g., adhesive tape, screws)
  • CR2450 Battery (Pre-installed or included separately)

4. Product Features

  • Door/Window Monitoring: Detects opening and closing events.
  • Zigbee Compatibility: Works with various Zigbee-enabled home security and automation systems (e.g., Comcast Xfinity Security systems, Home Assistant, SmartThings).
  • Battery Powered: Operates on a single CR2450 battery for extended periods.
  • Tamper Protection: Includes a tamper switch to detect unauthorized removal of the sensor.
  • Temperature Sensing: Provides ambient temperature readings (note: temperature reporting frequency and accuracy may vary by system).

5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

The sensor typically comes with a CR2450 battery pre-installed, often with a pull tab to prevent discharge. If the battery is not installed or needs replacement:

  1. Gently lift the white shell casing away from the beveled edges of the larger sensor unit.
  2. Slide the white shell off to access the internal components and battery compartment.
  3. Insert one CR2450 battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the white shell, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

5.2. Mounting the Sensor

The sensor can be mounted using either adhesive tape or screws (if provided). For optimal performance, ensure the sensor unit and magnet are aligned and placed within 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) of each other when the door/window is closed.

  1. Choose Location: Select a clean, dry, and flat surface on the door/window frame and the moving part of the door/window.
  2. Clean Surface: Wipe the chosen areas with a clean cloth to remove dust or grease.
  3. Attach Adhesive: Apply the provided adhesive tape to the back of both the main sensor unit and the magnet.
  4. Position Sensor: Mount the larger sensor unit on the fixed frame of the door or window.
  5. Position Magnet: Mount the smaller magnet on the moving part of the door or window, directly adjacent to the sensor unit. Ensure the alignment marks (if any) on both parts face each other.
  6. Test Alignment: Close the door/window and verify that the sensor and magnet are within the recommended distance.

5.3. Pairing with Your System

The pairing process may vary slightly depending on your Zigbee hub or security system (e.g., SmartThings, Home Assistant, Xfinity Security). Refer to your system's documentation for specific instructions. General steps are as follows:

  1. Activate Pairing Mode on Hub: Open your Zigbee hub's application or interface and initiate the
