Raleigh Bikes Tristar 3-Speed Trike User Manual

Model: 14-17-8112

Introduction

Welcome to the user manual for your Raleigh Bikes Tristar 3-Speed Trike. This manual provides essential information for the safe assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your trike. Please read it thoroughly before using your trike to ensure a safe and enjoyable riding experience.

Safety Information

Always wear a helmet when riding. Ensure all bolts and quick releases are securely tightened before each ride. Check brakes for proper function. Be aware of your surroundings and obey all traffic laws. Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of the rear rack (45 lbs).

Setup

The Raleigh Tristar 3-Speed Trike is designed for minimal assembly. While some components may require minor adjustments, the primary structure is pre-assembled.

1. Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging materials for future transport or storage if needed. Inspect all parts for any signs of damage during shipping. If any damage is found, contact customer support immediately.

2. Adjusting Seat and Handlebars

Adjust the seat height so that your feet can comfortably touch the ground while seated. The seat post features a quick-release lever for easy adjustment. Ensure the handlebars are at a comfortable height and angle for steering, and tighten all bolts securely.

3. Brake Check

Before your first ride, test both the front V-brake and the rear coaster brake. The front V-brake is operated by the lever on the handlebar. The rear coaster brake engages when you pedal backward. Ensure both brakes engage smoothly and effectively stop the trike.

4. Tire Inflation

Check the tire pressure on all three wheels. The recommended pressure is usually indicated on the tire sidewall. Inflate tires to the specified pressure using a suitable pump.

Operating

1. Riding the Trike

The Tristar trike offers superb stability due to its three-wheel design. Mount the trike using the steel step-through frame. Begin pedaling forward to engage the drive system. Steering is similar to a bicycle, but the wider rear stance requires slightly different cornering techniques; practice in an open, safe area.

2. Gear Shifting

Your trike is equipped with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed internal geared hub. Shift gears using the trigger shifter on the handlebar. Shift to a lower gear (1) for easier pedaling on inclines and a higher gear (3) for faster speeds on flat terrain. You can shift gears while stationary or while pedaling lightly.

3. Braking

The front V-brake provides strong stopping power and is controlled by the right handlebar lever. The rear coaster brake is activated by pedaling backward. For optimal stopping, apply both brakes simultaneously and smoothly. The front V-brake also includes a parking lock feature to secure the trike when stationary.

4. Using the Rear Rack

The integrated rear rack is designed to carry items, with a maximum capacity of 45 lbs. Secure all cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit, which could affect stability and control. Do not exceed the weight limit.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Raleigh Tristar Trike.

1. Cleaning

Clean your trike regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid high-pressure washers, which can force water into bearings and other sensitive components. Dry thoroughly after washing.

2. Tire Pressure

Check tire pressure weekly and inflate to the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) found on the tire sidewall. Proper tire pressure improves ride quality and prevents punctures.

3. Brake Adjustment

Periodically check brake pads for wear and replace them when necessary. Ensure brake cables are free of fraying and properly tensioned. If brakes feel spongy or do not engage effectively, have them inspected by a qualified bicycle mechanic.

4. Chain Lubrication

Lubricate the chain every few months or after riding in wet conditions. Use a bicycle-specific chain lubricant. Apply sparingly, pedal backward to distribute, and wipe off excess to prevent dirt accumulation.

5. General Inspection

Before each ride, quickly inspect the trike for loose bolts, damaged components, or unusual noises. Pay attention to the wheels, handlebars, seat, and pedals.
