2. Safety Information

To ensure safe operation and prevent damage, please observe the following precautions:

• Do not expose the speaker to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive humidity.
• Ensure the cap for the USB port is securely closed when using the speaker near water to maintain water resistance.
• Avoid dropping or subjecting the speaker to strong impacts.
• Use only the supplied micro USB cable for charging.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the speaker.
• Keep the speaker away from medical devices.

3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Speaker

1. Open the cap on the rear of the speaker.
2. Connect the supplied micro USB cable to the speaker's micro USB port and to a USB AC adapter (not supplied) or a computer's USB port.
3. The CHARGE indicator will light up in orange during charging and turn off when charging is complete.
4. A full charge provides approximately 12 hours of playback, depending on usage conditions.
5. Close the cap securely after charging.

3.2 Powering On/Off

• To turn on the speaker, press and hold the (power) PAIRING button until the power indicator lights up.
• To turn off the speaker, press and hold the (power) PAIRING button until the power indicator turns off.

3.3 Bluetooth Pairing

Pairing is the process of registering Bluetooth devices with each other. Once paired, you can connect without re-pairing.

Standard Bluetooth Pairing:

1. Turn on the speaker. The (Bluetooth) indicator will flash slowly.
2. Press and hold the (power) PAIRING button for about 3 seconds until the (Bluetooth) indicator starts flashing quickly. The speaker is now in pairing mode.
3. On your Bluetooth device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
4. Select "SRS-XB20" from the list of found devices.
5. Once pairing is complete, the (Bluetooth) indicator will stop flashing and remain lit.

NFC One-touch Pairing:

If your device supports NFC, you can pair by simply touching the device to the speaker.

1. Ensure the speaker is turned on.
2. Activate NFC on your smartphone or compatible device.
3. Touch the NFC-compatible device to the N-Mark on the top of the speaker until the device vibrates or confirms connection.
4. Follow any on-screen prompts on your device to complete the connection.

4. Operating the Speaker

4.1 Basic Controls

4.2 EXTRA BASS Function

Press the EXTRA BASS button to activate or deactivate the EXTRA BASS sound mode. When active, the EXTRA BASS indicator will light up.

4.3 Lighting Function

The speaker features a single-colored line light. To control the light, press and hold the EXTRA BASS / LIGHT button. The light can be turned on or off.

4.4 Wireless Party Chain and Stereo Mode

You can connect up to 10 compatible Sony wireless speakers to play music simultaneously (Wireless Party Chain) or connect two identical speakers for stereo sound (Stereo Mode).

To use Wireless Party Chain:

1. Connect one speaker to your device via Bluetooth. This will be the "Host" speaker.
2. On the Host speaker, press the ADD button. The ADD indicator will flash.
3. On the other speakers you wish to add, turn them on and press the ADD button.
4. Once connected, the ADD indicator on all speakers will light up.

To use Stereo Mode:

1. Connect one speaker to your device via Bluetooth. This will be the "Left" speaker.
2. On the Left speaker, press the ADD button. The ADD indicator will flash.
3. On the second identical speaker, turn it on and press the ADD button.
4. Once connected, press the ADD button on either speaker again to switch between Left/Right assignment. The L or R indicator will light up.

4.5 Using with the Sony | Music Center App

For enhanced control and customization, download the Sony | Music Center app (formerly SongPal) on your smartphone or tablet. The app allows you to:

• Adjust sound settings, including equalizer.
• Control music playback.
• Manage connected speakers.
• Update speaker firmware.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Speaker

• Wipe the speaker with a soft, dry cloth.
• For stubborn stains, dampen a cloth with a mild detergent solution and wipe gently, then dry thoroughly.
• Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powder, or solvents such as alcohol or benzene, as these may damage the surface.

5.2 Water Resistance Care

• After using the speaker in a wet environment, wipe off any water with a soft, dry cloth.
• Do not place the speaker directly in water or expose it to strong jets of water.
• Ensure the cap covering the USB port is always securely closed to maintain water resistance.

5.3 Battery Care

• To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
• Charge the speaker regularly, even if not in use, to prevent deep discharge.

6.1 No Power

• Ensure the speaker is charged. Connect it to a power source using the micro USB cable.
• Press and hold the (power) PAIRING button for a few seconds to ensure it's not just in standby.

6.2 No Sound or Low Sound

• Increase the volume on both the speaker and the connected Bluetooth device.
• Ensure the Bluetooth device is properly connected to the speaker.
• Check if the speaker is muted.
• If using Wireless Party Chain, ensure all speakers are properly connected and the host speaker is playing audio.

6.3 Bluetooth Connection Issues

• Ensure the speaker is in pairing mode (Bluetooth indicator flashing rapidly).
• Move the Bluetooth device closer to the speaker (within 33 feet or 10 meters).
• Turn off and on the Bluetooth function on your device, then try pairing again.
• Delete the "SRS-XB20" entry from your device's Bluetooth list and re-pair.
• Avoid obstacles between the speaker and the Bluetooth device.

6.4 Speaker Not Responding

• If the speaker becomes unresponsive, press and hold the (power) PAIRING button for approximately 10 seconds to force a restart.
