Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your GoControl Z-Wave Wall Switch.
1. Wiring the Switch
- Turn OFF Power: Locate the circuit breaker controlling the switch you are replacing and turn it OFF. Verify power is off by attempting to turn on the light or appliance.
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting which wire was connected to which terminal (Line, Load, Neutral, Ground).
- Identify Wires:
- Line (Hot): Usually black, coming from the circuit breaker.
- Load: Usually black, going to the light fixture or appliance.
- Neutral: Usually white, often bundled together in the back of the box. (Required for Z-Wave switches).
- Ground: Usually green or bare copper.
- Connect New Switch: Connect the wires to the GoControl WS15Z5-1 switch terminals as follows:
- Connect the Line wire to the terminal marked "LINE".
- Connect the Load wire to the terminal marked "LOAD".
- Connect the Neutral wire to the terminal marked "NEUTRAL".
- Connect the Ground wire to the terminal marked "GROUND".
Ensure all connections are secure. If you are unsure about wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
- Mount Switch: Carefully push the wired switch into the wall box. Secure it with the provided screws.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach the new or existing wall plate.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Switch does not respond to manual press. | No power to the switch; incorrect wiring; faulty switch. | Check circuit breaker. Verify wiring connections (Line, Load, Neutral, Ground). If issues persist, contact support. |
| Switch does not respond to Z-Wave commands. | Not properly included in Z-Wave network; out of range; network interference. | Perform Z-Wave exclusion, then re-inclusion. Move controller closer to the switch during inclusion. Check for other Z-Wave devices interfering. |
| Cannot include switch into Z-Wave network. | Switch is already included in another network; controller not in inclusion mode. | Perform Z-Wave exclusion first (see below). Ensure your controller is in inclusion mode. |
| LED indicator is not behaving as expected. | Indicates network status or error. | Refer to your Z-Wave controller's manual for specific LED behavior interpretations or contact GoControl support. |
Z-Wave Exclusion (Removing from Network)
If you need to remove the switch from your Z-Wave network, follow these steps:
- Put your Z-Wave controller into Exclusion mode. (Refer to your Z-Wave controller's manual for specific instructions).
- On the GoControl WS15Z5-1 switch, quickly press the top or bottom paddle once. The LED indicator will blink to confirm exclusion mode.
- The controller will confirm successful exclusion. The switch's LED will stop blinking.
