Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

- Always fill water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to 'off', then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.

Setup
Before First Use
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Clean the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth.
- Run a full cycle with water only to clean the internal components. Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark, place the empty filter basket and carafe, and press the Brew/Off button.
Installing the Charcoal Water Filter
- Remove the charcoal water filter from its packaging.
- Soak the filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
- Place the filter into the filter holder.
- Insert the filter holder into the water reservoir, ensuring it snaps securely into place.
- Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses.
Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Fill Water Reservoir: Open the coffeemaker lid and pour fresh, cold water into the water reservoir up to the desired 14-cup level. The water level indicator is located on the side of the coffeemaker.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place a paper filter (cone-style) or the permanent gold-tone filter into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup. Adjust to taste.
- Close Lid: Ensure the coffeemaker lid is securely closed.
- Select Brew Strength: Press the 'Bold' button for a stronger coffee flavor. The indicator light will illuminate. For regular strength, leave the 'Bold' button off.
- 1-4 Cup Setting: If brewing 1 to 4 cups, press the '1-4' button. This optimizes extraction for smaller batches. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Start Brewing: Press the 'Brew/Off' button to begin the brewing cycle. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Brew Pause Feature: The Brew Pause feature allows you to remove the carafe during the brewing cycle to pour a cup of coffee. The brewing process will temporarily stop. Return the carafe to the heating plate within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
Programming Auto-On Time
- Press the 'Prog/Auto On' button. The indicator light will flash.
- Use the 'Hr' and 'Min' buttons to set the desired auto-on time.
- Press 'Prog/Auto On' again to confirm the setting. The indicator light will remain illuminated, indicating the auto-on function is active.
Setting Auto-Off Time
- Press and hold the 'Brew/Off' button for 2 seconds. The display will show the current auto-off setting (default is 2 hours).
- Use the 'Hr' and 'Min' buttons to adjust the auto-off time from 0 to 4 hours.
- Release the 'Brew/Off' button to set the new auto-off time.
Setting Carafe Temperature
- Press the 'Carafe Temp' button.
- Cycle through the available temperature settings (Low, Medium, High) by pressing the button repeatedly until your desired setting is displayed.
Setting Ready Tone
- Press the 'Tone' button to toggle the audible alert on or off. An icon on the display will indicate if the tone is active.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffeemaker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Wash the glass carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water after each use. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Never immerse the coffeemaker base in water or other liquids.
Decalcification
Mineral deposits (calcium and lime) can build up in your coffeemaker and affect its performance. The 'Clean' indicator light will illuminate when decalcification is recommended.
- Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
- Press the 'Clean' button. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Press the 'Brew/Off' button to start the cleaning cycle.
- When the cycle is complete, the coffeemaker will beep five times and shut off.
- Run 2-3 cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar solution.
Charcoal Water Filter Replacement
Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more often if you have hard water. Follow the installation steps in the 'Setup' section.
Troubleshooting
