5. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure optimal performance and extend the life of your coffee maker.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray after each use or when the indicator floats up.
- Milk Reservoir: After each use, remove the milk reservoir and rinse it thoroughly. It can be stored in the refrigerator with milk for a short period. The removable metallic part of the milk frother should also be cleaned to prevent milk residue buildup.
- Portafilter: Remove the portafilter, discard used coffee grounds/capsule, and rinse it under running water.
- Brew Head: Wipe the brew head with a damp cloth to remove any coffee residue.
5.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance. Descaling should be performed regularly, depending on water hardness and usage frequency (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Empty the water and milk reservoirs.
- Fill the water reservoir with a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions, or use a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
- Place a large container under the brew head and steam wand.
- Run several cycles of espresso and milk frothing (without coffee or milk) until the water reservoir is empty.
- Rinse the water reservoir and fill it with fresh water. Run several cycles again to flush out any remaining descaling solution.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No coffee dispenses | Water reservoir empty; clogged filter; machine not heated. | Fill water reservoir; clean filter basket; wait for indicator lights to be solid. |
| Weak coffee | Insufficient coffee grounds; coarse grind; not tamped enough. | Increase coffee amount; use finer grind; tamp firmly. |
| No milk froth or poor froth quality | Milk reservoir empty; milk frother clogged; cold milk not used. | Fill milk reservoir; clean milk frother components; use cold milk. |
| Machine leaks | Portafilter not properly secured; drip tray full; reservoir not seated correctly. | Ensure portafilter is locked; empty drip tray; re-seat reservoirs. |
| Machine not turning on | Not plugged in; power outage. | Check power connection; verify power supply. |
