Smad 3.5 RV Cu.Ft. Propane Refrigerator User Manual

Model: DSG-100B1U(A) | Brand: Smad

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Smad 3.5 RV Cu.Ft. Propane Refrigerator. This appliance is designed for versatile use, operating on 12V DC, 110V AC, or LPG (propane) gas, making it ideal for RVs, campers, offices, apartments, and off-grid living. With a 3.5 cu.ft. total capacity (3.0 cu.ft. refrigerator and 0.5 cu.ft. freezer), adjustable shelves, and a quiet absorption cooling system, it provides reliable cooling for your food and beverages.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before operating the refrigerator to prevent injury or damage.

  • Gas Pressure: The required LPG pressure is 2.8Kpa (28mbar). Ensure your gas supply system provides this pressure.
  • Regulator Type: Always use a standard propane gas regulator. Do not use an adjustable regulator.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the refrigerator, especially when operating on propane, to prevent the buildup of combustion byproducts and dissipate heat.
  • Leveling: The refrigerator must be level for proper and efficient operation, particularly when running on propane. Uneven operation can lead to poor cooling performance or safety hazards.
  • Heat and Odor: If you notice excessive heat from the unit's exterior, unusual odors (like burning plastic), or a significant decrease in cooling performance, immediately disconnect all power sources (AC, DC, and gas) and contact customer support.
  • Installation: Installation should be performed by a qualified technician, especially for gas connections, to ensure compliance with local codes and safety standards.

4. Setup

4.1 Initial Setup After Transport

After transporting the refrigerator, especially over long distances, it is crucial to allow the internal fluids to settle before operation. Follow these steps:

  1. Leave the refrigerator upside down for 12 hours.
  2. Then, leave it upright for another 12 hours.
  3. After 24 hours, turn it on and adjust the thermostat to the highest setting for the first use to ensure optimal cooling initiation.

4.2 Power Connections

The Smad refrigerator supports three power sources:

  • 110V AC: Plug the refrigerator into a standard 110V AC outlet.
  • 12V DC: Connect to a 12V DC power source, typically found in RVs or vehicles. Ensure proper polarity.
  • LPG (Propane): Connect a propane gas line to the refrigerator's gas inlet. Ensure the gas pressure is 2.8Kpa (28mbar) and use a standard, non-adjustable regulator.

Important: Only one power source should be active at a time. The refrigerator automatically prioritizes AC power if available, then DC, then LPG. For optimal performance and safety, ensure proper ventilation when operating on LPG.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Temperature Control

The refrigerator's temperature can be adjusted using the thermostat knob (E on Figure 3.2.2). The recommended temperature range for the refrigerator compartment is 32-50°F (0-10°C), and for the freezer compartment, it is -0.4-32°F (-18-0°C).

5.2 Switching Power Modes

Use the power switch (A on Figure 3.2.2) to select the desired power source (AC, DC, or Gas). Ensure the corresponding power supply is connected and active.

5.3 Propane Ignition

To operate on propane:

  1. Ensure the gas supply is connected and the gas valve is open.
  2. Select the gas mode using the power switch.
  3. Press and hold the Safety Valve (D on Figure 3.2.2) while simultaneously pressing the Pulse Ignition Switch (B on Figure 3.2.2) repeatedly until the flame ignites.
  4. Observe the Flame Indicator (C on Figure 3.2.2) to confirm successful ignition. Hold the Safety Valve for a few more seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat up, then release.
  5. If the flame does not ignite or goes out, repeat the process. Ensure adequate gas flow and proper ventilation.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Always disconnect power (AC/DC) and turn off gas supply before cleaning.
  • Clean the interior and exterior with a mild detergent and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • The removable shelves and crisper drawer can be easily taken out for thorough cleaning.
  • Regularly clean the rear ventilation area to ensure proper airflow for the absorption system.

6.2 Defrosting

While the unit features a 'Frost Free' defrost system, occasional manual defrosting may be beneficial, especially in high humidity environments or if ice buildup is observed in the freezer compartment. To defrost:

  1. Turn off the refrigerator and disconnect all power sources.
  2. Remove all food items.
  3. Leave the door open to allow ice to melt naturally. Place towels to absorb water.
  4. Do not use sharp objects to remove ice, as this can damage the cooling system.
  5. Once defrosted, clean and dry the interior before restarting.

6.3 Gas Line Inspection

Periodically inspect the gas lines and connections for any signs of leaks or damage. Use a soapy water solution on connections; bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is detected, immediately turn off the gas supply and contact a qualified technician.
