2. Setup and Installation

This section outlines the steps for connecting the ASC Audio wire harness to your Jensen car stereo and vehicle's wiring. Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with car audio wiring.

2.1 Identify the Harness

The ASC Audio wire harness features a 20-pin connector designed to plug directly into compatible Jensen car stereos. It includes wires for power, ground, accessory, remote, and four pairs of speaker wires, along with two sets of RCA outputs and a parking brake wire.

2.2 Prepare the Vehicle and Radio

  1. Disconnect Battery: Before starting any electrical work, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Remove Old Radio: Carefully remove the existing car stereo from the dashboard.
  3. Identify Radio Connector: Locate the 20-pin connector port on the back of your Jensen car stereo. Ensure it matches the harness connector.

2.3 Wire Connections

Match the wires from the ASC Audio harness to the corresponding wires in your vehicle's wiring harness. Refer to your vehicle's wiring diagram for accurate connections. Common wire functions are:

  • Yellow: Constant 12V Power (Battery)
  • Red: Switched 12V Power (Accessory)
  • Black: Ground
  • Blue: Remote Turn-On (for amplifier or power antenna)
  • Orange/White: Illumination/Dimmer
  • Green/Green-Black: Left Rear Speaker (+/-)
  • Purple/Purple-Black: Right Rear Speaker (+/-)
  • White/White-Black: Left Front Speaker (+/-)
  • Gray/Gray-Black: Right Front Speaker (+/-)
  • Light Green: Parking Brake (for video playback safety features)
  • Red/White RCA: Audio Output (Left/Right)

Ensure all connections are secure using crimp connectors or solder and heat shrink tubing. Avoid twisting wires together without proper insulation.

2.4 Finalizing Installation

  1. Connect Harness to Radio: Plug the 20-pin connector of the ASC Audio harness firmly into the corresponding port on the back of your Jensen radio.
  2. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
  3. Test Functionality: Turn on the vehicle and the radio to ensure all functions (power, audio, balance, fade) are working correctly.
  4. Secure Radio: Once tested, carefully slide the radio back into its mounting location and secure it.

3. Operating

The wire harness itself does not have operational controls. Its function is to provide the necessary electrical connections for your car stereo to operate. Once installed, the operation of your car stereo will follow its manufacturer's instructions.

Ensure all audio channels (front left, front right, rear left, rear right) are producing sound and that the RCA outputs are functioning if connected to an external amplifier.

4. Maintenance

The ASC Audio wire harness requires minimal maintenance. Periodically, you may want to:

  • Inspect Connections: If you experience intermittent issues, check the harness connections to the radio and the vehicle's wiring for any loose or corroded contacts.
  • Cable Management: Ensure the wires are not pinched or exposed to excessive heat or sharp edges within the dashboard.

5. Troubleshooting

If your car stereo is not functioning correctly after installing the harness, consider the following:

  • No Power to Radio:
    • Check the vehicle's fuse box for blown fuses related to the radio or accessory power.
    • Verify the yellow (constant power) and red (switched power) wires are correctly connected and receiving 12V.
    • Ensure the black (ground) wire has a secure connection to the vehicle chassis.
  • No Sound:
    • Check all speaker wire connections for proper polarity and secure contact.
    • If using RCA outputs, ensure they are correctly connected to the amplifier and the amplifier is powered on.
    • Verify the radio's volume is up and not muted.
  • Intermittent Functionality:
    • Inspect all wire connections for looseness or poor crimps.
    • Ensure the 20-pin connector is fully seated into the radio.
  • Parking Brake Safety Feature Not Working:
    • Verify the light green parking brake wire is correctly connected to the vehicle's parking brake signal wire.
