Setup and Installation

Follow these steps carefully to install your inline water filter kit. Ensure your water source is turned off before proceeding.

  1. Begin Installation: IMPORTANT: Turn off your water source before attempting to cut or connect any lines.
  2. Water Source Connection: Connect to your ice maker's water source using either a 1/4" Adapter or the 1/4" T-Connector. Insert the water line into the chosen connector.
  3. 15 Foot Water Line: Your filter kit comes with 15 feet of 1/4" water line. You will need to cut (3) lengths of line during installation. The (3) lengths of line will be determined by the desired placement of the WATER FILTER. The first line will run from the water source to the SHUT-OFF VALVE. The second will run from the SHUT-OFF VALVE to the WATER FILTER, and the last will run from the WATER FILTER to your ice maker.
  4. Insert Water Line into Shut-Off Valve: Neatly cut the water line, dividing the length into two pieces. One will run from the other side of the SHUT-OFF VALVE to the WATER FILTER.
  5. Prepare Filter: Remove the plugs from BOTH ENDS of the water filter by pushing in on the blue rings while pulling the plug out. DO NOT REMOVE THE BLUE RINGS.
  6. Connect Water Line to Filter (Inlet): Run the water line from the SHUT-OFF VALVE into the larger end of the WATER FILTER, which is marked "WATER SOURCE IN". Connect the remaining length of water line to the smaller end of the WATER FILTER. (A mounting bracket is provided for securing the filter, use the included screw).
  7. Connect Water Line to Filter (Outlet): Run the water line out from the WATER FILTER to reach your ice maker's connection point and trim the line as needed. Insert the water line into the 2nd 1/4" Adapter.
  8. Flush Filter: Flush the filter before first use. Connect the 1/4" Adapter to your ice maker connection point. IMPORTANT: Flush a minimum of (4) gallons of water through the filter into a sink before first use. Water may be gray when flushing; this is normal and will clear.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the filter operates automatically as water flows through it to your appliance. Ensure the shutoff valve is in the open position for water to flow.

Initial Flushing

As noted in the setup, it is crucial to flush the filter with approximately 4 gallons of water (for 5 minutes at the rated flow rate) before connecting it to your ice maker or other appliance. This removes carbon fines and prepares the filter for optimal performance.

Maintenance

Filter Replacement

The PureWater Filters PWF10 cartridge has a service life of up to 1,500 gallons or one year, whichever comes first. Regular replacement ensures continued water quality and appliance protection.

  • Mark the installation date on the filter label for easy tracking.
  • When replacing the filter, turn off the water supply, disconnect the old filter, and install the new one following the initial setup steps, including flushing.

Troubleshooting

  • Reduced Water Flow: This may indicate a clogged filter. Check if it's time for replacement. Ensure the shutoff valve is fully open.
  • Poor Water Taste/Odor: If taste or odor returns, the filter may be exhausted and requires replacement. Ensure initial flushing was performed correctly.
  • Leaks: Check all connections to ensure tubing is fully inserted into the quick-connect fittings. Ensure the blue locking rings are in place. Verify that the shutoff valve is not leaking.
  • Gray Water After Installation: This is normal during the initial flushing due to carbon fines. Continue flushing until water runs clear.
