3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Initial Inspection

3.2 Mounting the Beacon

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Activation Modes
The AMEC TB-520 can be activated in two ways:
4.1.1 Automatic Activation
The beacon will automatically activate when its water sensors are submerged. This is the primary activation method when a person falls overboard. Once activated, the beacon will deploy its antenna and begin transmitting AIS alert messages.
4.1.2 Manual Activation
To manually activate the beacon:
- Locate the red "PULL" tab on the beacon (refer to Figure 2.1).
- Firmly pull the tab to deploy the antenna.
- The beacon will then begin transmitting AIS alert messages.
4.2 Indicator Lights
The TB-520 features indicator lights to provide status feedback:
- Green Light (GPS OK / No GPS): Indicates GPS acquisition status. A steady green light typically means GPS fix is acquired.
- Orange Light (Device activated): Illuminates when the beacon is actively transmitting.
- Red Light (Battery OK / Low): Indicates battery status. A flashing red light may indicate low battery.

4.3 Deactivation

Regularly check the battery status indicator. Although the battery is not user-replaceable, monitoring its status is crucial. If the low battery indicator is persistent, the unit may need professional servicing or replacement.
5.3 Storage
Store the TB-520 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the antenna is fully retracted and the water sensors are clean and dry before storage.
