2. Product Overview
The NAGAOKA JN-P500 is a high-performance replacement stylus featuring a line contact diamond tip. 3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and to prevent damage to the stylus or your records. Always handle the stylus with extreme care.
- Preparation: Ensure your turntable is powered off and unplugged. Gently lift the tonearm and secure it in its rest.
- Removing the Old Stylus: If replacing an existing stylus, grasp the sides of the old stylus assembly (not the cantilever or diamond tip) and gently pull it forward and down from the cartridge body. It should detach with minimal force.
- Installing the New Stylus: Carefully align the new JN-P500 stylus assembly with the cartridge body. The stylus should slide smoothly into place. Push it gently upwards and backwards until it clicks securely into position. Do not force it.
- Inspection: Visually inspect the stylus to ensure it is seated correctly and the cantilever is straight. Avoid touching the diamond tip.
- Tracking Force Adjustment: After installation, it is recommended to re-check and adjust your turntable's tracking force and anti-skate settings according to the specifications provided in this manual (see Section 6).

4. Operating Instructions
Once the stylus is installed and tracking force is set, you can begin playing records. Always ensure your records are clean and free of dust to maximize stylus life and sound quality.
- Place the record on the turntable platter.
- Start the turntable motor.
- Gently lower the tonearm onto the record's lead-in groove using the tonearm lift mechanism. Avoid dropping the tonearm manually.
- At the end of the record, use the tonearm lift to raise the tonearm and return it to its rest.
- Stop the turntable motor.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will prolong the life of your stylus and maintain sound quality.
- Stylus Cleaning: Use a dedicated stylus cleaning brush (dry type) and gently brush the stylus tip from back to front (following the direction of play). Never brush from side to side or front to back, as this can damage the cantilever. Clean the stylus before and after each listening session.
- Record Cleaning: Keep your records clean. Dust and debris on records are the primary cause of stylus wear and poor sound.
- Storage: When not in use, ensure the stylus guard is in place to protect the delicate tip. Store the stylus in its original packaging if removed from the cartridge.
- Replacement: Stylus tips wear out over time. The lifespan depends on usage and record cleanliness. Typically, a diamond stylus should be inspected or replaced after 500-1000 hours of play. A worn stylus can damage your records.
