3. Product Overview

The ATIKA KSH 710 SDS is an electric telescopic pole saw designed for pruning branches at height. It features an adjustable cutting head and a telescopic shaft for extended reach.

This image illustrates the ATIKA KSH 710 SDS telescopic pole saw. It shows the full assembly of the pole saw, its adjustable cutting head with angles of 0°, 15°, and 30°, and its telescopic length adjustments from approximately 2.47 meters to 3.07 meters.

Key Components:

  • Cutting Head: Houses the guide bar and saw chain. Adjustable to 0°, 15°, and 30° angles.
  • Telescopic Shaft: Allows adjustment of the pole saw's overall length for extended reach.
  • Handle with Controls: Main grip area with power switch and safety lock.
  • Oil Tank: For automatic chain lubrication.
  • Cable Strain Relief: Prevents accidental disconnection of the power cord.
  • Carrying Strap: For comfortable operation and transport.

4. Setup

4.1 Assembly

  1. Carefully unpack all components and ensure nothing is missing.
  2. Attach the guide bar and saw chain according to the instructions provided in the separate chain installation guide (if applicable). Ensure the chain is correctly oriented and seated in the guide bar groove.
  3. Adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug but still able to be pulled freely by hand around the guide bar. The ATIKA KSH 710 SDS features tool-free chain tension adjustment.

4.2 Filling Chain Oil

  1. Locate the oil tank cap on the cutting head.
  2. Unscrew the cap and fill the tank with high-quality chain lubricant. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
  3. Replace the cap securely. The automatic chain lubrication system will ensure the chain is continuously oiled during operation.

4.3 Attaching the Carrying Strap

Attach the provided carrying strap to the designated points on the pole saw. Adjust the strap length for comfortable and balanced operation, distributing the tool's weight evenly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power Connection

Connect the pole saw to a suitable 230 V ~ 50 Hz power outlet. Ensure the cable is routed safely and secured by the cable strain relief to prevent accidental disconnection.

5.2 Adjusting Telescopic Length

To adjust the working height, unlock the telescopic shaft mechanism, extend or retract the pole to the desired length (between approximately 2.47 m and 3.07 m), and then securely lock the mechanism. Ensure the shaft is fully locked before operation.

5.3 Adjusting Cutting Angle

The cutting head can be adjusted to three positions: 0°, 15°, and 30°. To change the angle, release the locking mechanism on the cutting head, rotate it to the desired angle, and ensure it clicks securely into place. This allows for optimal cutting of branches at various orientations.

5.4 Starting and Stopping

  1. Ensure you have a firm grip with both hands and are in a stable position.
  2. To start, press the safety lock button and then squeeze the trigger switch.
  3. To stop, release the trigger switch. The chain will stop quickly.

5.5 Cutting Technique

  • Allow the saw to reach full speed before making contact with the branch.
  • Make cuts in a controlled manner, letting the saw do the work. Do not force the saw through the wood.
  • For larger branches, make an undercut first to prevent bark stripping, then complete the cut from the top.
  • Be aware of falling branches and plan your escape route.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Chain Lubrication

Regularly check the chain oil level and refill as necessary. The automatic lubrication system requires a constant supply of oil to prevent premature wear of the chain and guide bar.

6.2 Cleaning

  • After each use, disconnect the power supply.
  • Clean the guide bar and chain, removing sawdust, resin, and debris.
  • Wipe down the housing with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • Ensure ventilation openings are clear of debris.

6.3 Chain Sharpening and Replacement

A sharp chain is crucial for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when it becomes dull or damaged. Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for proper sharpening techniques. Always use an Oregon 9.52 mm (3/8") – 1.1 – 33 low kickback chain for replacement.

6.4 Storage

Store the pole saw in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from moisture and extreme temperatures. Use the provided sword protection to cover the guide bar and chain during storage.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Saw not starting: Check power connection, ensure safety lock and trigger are pressed correctly. Verify power supply.
  • Chain not moving: Disconnect power. Check for chain obstruction, correct chain tension, or damage to the chain/guide bar.
  • Poor cutting performance: Disconnect power. Check if the chain is dull, improperly tensioned, or installed backward. Ensure sufficient chain oil.
  • Excessive vibration: Disconnect power. Check for loose components, damaged chain, or bent guide bar.
