2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating any power equipment. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

2.1 Carbon Monoxide Hazard

Generator exhaust contains carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Breathing CO can cause nausea, fainting, or death. Operate the generator outdoors only, far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never operate the generator inside any building, garage, basement, crawlspace, or other enclosed or partially enclosed area.

2.2 Fuel Safety

  • Gasoline is highly flammable and its vapors are explosive.
  • Store fuel in an approved container in a well-ventilated area.
  • Never refuel a hot or running engine. Allow the generator to cool for at least 15 minutes before refueling.
  • Do not overfill the fuel tank.

2.3 Electrical Safety

  • Never operate the generator in wet conditions.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly grounded.
  • Do not connect the generator to a building's electrical system unless a qualified electrician has installed a transfer switch.

2.4 Proposition 65 Warning

This product can expose you to chemicals including carbon monoxide and benzene, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

  4. Securely replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.

3.3 Adding Fuel

Use only fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use E85 fuel.

  1. Ensure the generator is turned off and cool.
  2. Unscrew the fuel cap.
  3. Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, ensuring not to overfill. The tank capacity is 0.9 gallons.
  4. Securely replace the fuel cap.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to safely start and operate your FIRMAN W01781 Inverter Portable Generator.

4.1 Starting the Generator (Recoil Start)

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level outdoor surface, away from any obstructions.
  2. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
  3. Move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position (cold start). For warm starts, the choke may not be necessary.
  4. Turn the engine switch to the 'ON' position.
  5. Firmly grasp the recoil starter handle and pull it slowly until you feel resistance, then pull quickly and smoothly to start the engine.
  6. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position.

4.2 Connecting Electrical Devices

Your generator features multiple outlets, including 120V AC 20A duplex outlets, a 12V DC 5A outlet, and USB ports. Ensure the total wattage of connected devices does not exceed the generator's running wattage (1700W).

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator. Always refer to the full owner's manual for detailed maintenance schedules and procedures.

5.1 Engine Oil Change

Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 100 hours or annually thereafter. Use the recommended oil type (refer to specifications).

5.2 Air Filter Maintenance

Inspect the air filter regularly and clean or replace it as needed, especially in dusty conditions. A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance and increase fuel consumption.

5.3 Spark Plug Inspection

Inspect the spark plug annually or every 100 hours. Clean or replace if necessary. Ensure the correct gap is maintained.

5.4 Storage

For extended storage, drain the fuel system completely or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the engine oil and clean the generator thoroughly. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.

6. Troubleshooting

This section covers common issues you might encounter with your generator. For more complex problems, contact customer support.

6.1 Engine Will Not Start

  • No Fuel: Check fuel level and add fresh gasoline.
  • No Oil: Check oil level and add oil if low. The generator has a low-oil shutdown feature.
