1. Introduction and Safety Information

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Firman P08003 Portable Generator. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the generator to ensure proper use and to prevent injury or damage.

Important Safety Warnings:

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operate the generator outdoors only, far away from windows, doors, and vents.
  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Never operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all connections are dry and secure.
  • Fire Hazard: Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke while refueling.
  • Hot Surfaces: The generator engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for a period after shutdown. Avoid contact.

3. Setup and Initial Preparation

3.1 Unpacking and Assembly

Carefully remove the generator and all components from the packaging. The generator is equipped with 10-inch wheels and a folding handle for portability. Attach the wheels and handle according to the assembly instructions provided in the separate quick start guide or detailed manual.

3.2 Adding Engine Oil

The generator is shipped without engine oil. Before first use, you must add the provided engine oil.

  1. Place the generator on a level surface.
  2. Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick on the engine.
  3. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.
  4. Using the provided oil funnel, slowly pour the entire bottle of engine oil into the engine crankcase.
  5. Reinsert and tighten the oil fill cap/dipstick.

3.3 Connecting the Battery

The generator includes a battery for electric start. Connect the battery terminals as instructed in the quick start guide. Ensure positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are connected correctly to avoid damage.

3.4 Adding Fuel

The P08003 generator operates on unleaded gasoline. It has an 8-gallon fuel tank.

  1. Ensure the generator is off and cool.
  2. Open the fuel cap.
  3. Carefully pour unleaded gasoline into the fuel tank, observing the built-in fuel gauge. Do not overfill.
  4. Securely close the fuel cap.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Control Panel Overview

4.2 Starting the Generator

Ensure the generator is placed outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from any structures.

  1. Ensure the fuel valve is in the 'ON' position.
  2. If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position.
  3. Electric Start: Turn the Engine START/ON/OFF switch to 'START'. Release once the engine starts.
  4. Remote Start: Press the 'START' button on the remote key fob. The remote has a range of up to 168 feet.
  5. Recoil Start: If electric or remote start is unavailable, pull the recoil starter handle firmly until the engine starts.
  6. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position.

4.3 Connecting Electrical Loads

After the generator is running, you can connect your electrical devices. Ensure the total wattage does not exceed the generator's running wattage (8000 watts) to prevent overload.

4.4 Stopping the Generator

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. Turn the Engine START/ON/OFF switch to 'OFF', or press the 'STOP' button on the remote key fob.
  3. Turn the fuel valve to the 'OFF' position.

5.1 Engine Oil Change
