Model: 1.5-ton Scissor Jack

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and storage of your USA Tools N More 1.5-ton Scissor Jack. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage.

The USA Tools N More 1.5-ton Scissor Jack is designed for lifting vehicles with a maximum weight of 1.5 tons (3,000 lbs) for tire changes or other minor under-vehicle maintenance. It is crucial to understand that a scissor jack is a lifting device only and is not intended to support a vehicle for extended periods. Always use appropriate jack stands to support the vehicle after lifting.

2. Important Safety Information

Failure to follow these safety warnings may result in serious injury, death, or property damage.

  • Read All Instructions: Before using the jack, read and understand all instructions and warnings in this manual.
  • Use on Hard, Level Surface: Always operate the jack on a hard, level surface. Avoid soft ground, gravel, or uneven surfaces.
  • Do Not Exceed Rated Capacity: Never exceed the 1.5-ton (3,000 lbs) rated capacity of this jack.
  • Use Jack Stands: This jack is a lifting device only. Immediately after lifting, support the vehicle with appropriately rated jack stands before performing any work underneath. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
  • Proper Jacking Points: Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct jacking points. Using incorrect points can damage the vehicle or cause it to slip off the jack.
  • Chock Wheels: Always chock the wheels that are not being lifted to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
  • Stay Clear: Keep hands, feet, and other body parts clear of the jack mechanism and the vehicle during lifting and lowering.
  • No Passengers: Ensure no one is in the vehicle when it is being lifted or lowered.
  • Inspect Before Use: Before each use, inspect the jack for any signs of damage, wear, or deformation. Do not use a damaged jack.
  • Lower Slowly: Always lower the vehicle slowly and in a controlled manner.

4. Setup

  1. Assemble the Jack Handle: The jack handle typically comes in two pieces. Connect the two pieces securely to form a single operating handle.
  2. Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a hard, level surface. Engage the parking brake. Place wheel chocks on the wheels that will remain on the ground to prevent the vehicle from moving.
  3. Locate Jacking Points: Consult your vehicle's owner's manual to identify the designated jacking points. These are typically reinforced areas on the vehicle's frame or pinch welds.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Lifting the Vehicle

  1. Position the Jack: Place the jack directly under the designated jacking point of the vehicle. Ensure the saddle of the jack is centered and making full contact with the jacking point.
  2. Insert Handle: Insert the hook end of the assembled jack handle into the eyelet on the jack's threaded rod.
  3. Raise the Vehicle: Turn the jack handle clockwise to raise the jack. Continue turning until the tire is clear of the ground and you have sufficient height for your task. Do not lift the vehicle higher than necessary.
  4. Install Jack Stands: Once the vehicle is lifted to the desired height, immediately place appropriately rated jack stands under the vehicle's frame, near the jacking point, according to your vehicle's manual. Slowly lower the vehicle onto the jack stands by turning the jack handle counter-clockwise until the vehicle rests securely on the stands.
  5. Remove Jack: Once the vehicle is safely supported by jack stands, you may remove the scissor jack if it is no longer needed for stability.

5.2. Lowering the Vehicle

  1. Clear Area: Ensure all tools, equipment, and personnel are clear from under and around the vehicle.
  2. Raise Slightly: If the jack was removed, reposition it under the jacking point and raise the vehicle slightly to take the weight off the jack stands.
  3. Remove Jack Stands: Carefully remove the jack stands from under the vehicle.
  4. Lower Vehicle: Slowly turn the jack handle counter-clockwise to lower the vehicle to the ground. Ensure the lowering is controlled and gradual.
  5. Remove Jack: Once the vehicle is fully on the ground, remove the jack and the wheel chocks.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the jack to remove dirt, grease, and moisture.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light coat of grease or lubricating oil to the threaded rod and pivot points to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
  • Storage: Store the jack in a dry, clean place, preferably in its original packaging or a protective bag, to prevent corrosion and damage.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the jack for any signs of damage, bending, cracks, or excessive wear. Do not use a damaged jack; replace it immediately.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Jack is difficult to operate:
    • Check if the threaded rod and pivot points are adequately lubricated.
    • Ensure the jack is not overloaded.
  • Jack appears unstable:
    • Verify that the jack is placed on a hard, level surface.
    • Confirm the jack is centered under the vehicle's designated jacking point.
    • Ensure the vehicle's parking brake is engaged and wheels are chocked.
  • Jack does not lift the vehicle:
    • Check if the vehicle's weight exceeds the jack's 1.5-ton capacity.
    • Inspect the jack for any mechanical damage or bending.
