4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Inflating Bicycle Tires

  1. Prepare the Tire Valve:
    • For Schrader valves (wider, car-type valve): Unscrew the valve cap.
    • For Presta valves (thinner, often with a threaded tip): Unscrew the small nut at the top of the valve stem to open it. Press down briefly on the valve stem to release a small amount of air, ensuring it is not stuck.
  2. Attach the Pump Head:
    • The pump head is designed to fit both valve types. Push the appropriate opening of the pump head firmly onto the tire valve.
    • Flip the lever on the pump head to the locked position to secure it to the valve. Ensure a tight seal to prevent air leakage.
  3. Inflate the Tire: Place your feet on the pump's base for stability. Grip the handle firmly and push it down smoothly and completely. Pull the handle back up to its full extension. Repeat this motion to pump air into the tire.
  4. Monitor Pressure: Observe the pressure gauge at the base of the pump. Inflate the tire to the recommended PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) specified on your tire's sidewall.
  5. Remove the Pump Head: Once the desired pressure is reached, flip the lever on the pump head to the unlocked position. Carefully pull the pump head straight off the valve.
  6. Secure the Valve:
    • For Presta valves: Screw the small nut at the top of the valve stem back down to seal it, then replace the valve cap.
    • For Schrader valves: Replace the valve cap.

4.2 Inflating Sports Balls and Other Inflatables

  1. Select the Correct Adapter: Use the included ball needle for sports balls or the inflation cone for larger inflatables.
  2. Attach Adapter to Pump Head: Insert the chosen adapter into the appropriate opening of the pump head.
  3. Insert Adapter into Item: Carefully insert the ball needle into the valve of the sports ball or the inflation cone into the inflatable's opening.
  4. Inflate: Pump air until the desired firmness is achieved. The pressure gauge may not provide accurate readings for all inflatables.
  5. Remove Adapter: Carefully remove the adapter from the item and the pump head.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the pump body with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: Store the pump in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the hose is neatly coiled and secured to prevent kinks or damage.
  • Hose and Head Inspection: Periodically check the pump hose and head for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. A damaged hose or head can lead to air leaks and reduced performance.
  • Lubrication: If the pumping action becomes stiff, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the pump shaft, but avoid petroleum-based lubricants as they can damage seals.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump not inflating tire.Pump head not securely attached to valve; Presta valve not opened; valve core loose or damaged.Ensure pump head lever is in locked position. For Presta valves, unscrew the top nut and press to release air. Check valve core for tightness or damage.
Air leaks from pump head during inflation.Improper connection to valve; worn rubber gasket in pump head.Re-attach pump head firmly and ensure lever is fully locked. Inspect and replace pump head gasket if worn.
Gauge reading appears inaccurate.Gauge variations; external factors.Pump gauges provide an approximate reading. For precise measurements, use a separate, calibrated tire pressure gauge.
Difficulty pumping at higher PSI.High volume pumps require more effort for high pressures. This is normal for high volume pumps. Ensure proper posture and leverage. The pump is designed for up to 100 PSI, but effort increases with pressure.
