1. Product Overview

2. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your NETGEAR Orbi RBR40 router and establish your mesh WiFi network.

2.1. Unboxing and Placement

  1. Unpack the Orbi RBR40 router, power adapter, and Ethernet cable from the box.
  2. Place the Orbi router in a central location in your home, away from obstructions and electronic devices that may cause interference. Ensure it is within range of your internet modem.

2.2. Connecting the Orbi Router

  1. Power off your modem. If it has a battery backup, remove the battery.
  2. Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the yellow Internet port on the back of your Orbi router.
  3. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your modem's Ethernet port.
  4. Connect the power adapter to the Orbi router's DC-in port and plug it into a power outlet.
  5. Power on your modem, then wait for its indicator lights to stabilize.
  6. Press the Power On/Off button on the back of the Orbi router. The LED ring on top of the Orbi will light up.

2.3. Initial Configuration

You can configure your Orbi system using the Orbi app or a web browser.

Using the Orbi App:

  1. Download the NETGEAR Orbi app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check for and install firmware updates through the Orbi app or web interface. Updates often include performance improvements and security enhancements.
  • Regular Reboot: Rebooting your Orbi router every few weeks can help clear temporary issues and improve network stability. To reboot, simply unplug the power adapter, wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.

5.1. No Internet Connection (Magenta LED)

  • Check Modem: Ensure your internet modem is powered on and its indicator lights are stable, indicating an active internet connection.
  • Check Cables: Verify that the Ethernet cable connecting your Orbi router to the modem is securely plugged into the yellow Internet port on the Orbi and the Ethernet port on the modem.
  • Reboot System: Power off both your modem and Orbi router. Wait 30 seconds, then power on the modem first. Once the modem is fully online, power on the Orbi router.
  • Contact ISP: If the issue persists, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to confirm there are no service outages in your area.

To perform a factory reset, use a paperclip to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the router for about 10 seconds until the LED ring flashes amber.
