5. Installation Instructions

This section outlines the steps for installing your Depets Cat Flap Door. Ensure you have the necessary tools before starting.

5.1 Tools Required

  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool for your door material
  • Screwdriver (Phillips head)
  • Measuring tape

5.2 Installation Steps

  1. Prepare the Door: Choose a suitable location on your door or wall. Ensure it is at a comfortable height for your cat.
  2. Trace the Cut-Out: Use the provided installation template to mark the exact cut-out area on your door. If no template is provided, use the "Cut-Out Size" from the dimensions (6.3" W x 6.7" H) and trace it carefully.
  3. Drill Pilot Holes: Drill pilot holes in the four corners of the marked cut-out area. These holes will allow the jigsaw blade to enter.
  4. Cut the Opening: Carefully use a jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool to cut along the marked lines. Ensure the edges are clean and smooth.
  5. Insert the Frames: Place the front frame (with the flap) into the cut-out from one side of the door. Then, insert the back frame from the other side, aligning it with the front frame.
  6. Secure the Frames: Align the screw holes on both frames. Insert the screws through the designated holes. Use the longer screws for thicker doors and shorter screws for thinner doors. Tighten them securely, but do not overtighten.
  7. Apply Screw Caps: Cover the screw heads with the provided screw caps for a finished appearance and to prevent snagging.
  8. Test the Flap: Ensure the flap swings freely and the locking mechanism operates correctly.

6. Operating the 4-Way Lock

The Depets Cat Flap Door features a 4-way locking system, allowing you to control your pet's access. The two sliders at the bottom of the flap control the lock settings.

  • 1. Fully Locked (No Entry, No Exit): Both sliders are pushed to the center. The flap will not swing in either direction.
  • 2. In Only (Entry Allowed, No Exit): One slider is set to allow entry, the other to block exit. This allows your pet to come inside but prevents them from going out again.
  • 3. Out Only (Exit Allowed, No Entry): One slider is set to allow exit, the other to block entry. This allows your pet to go outside but prevents them from coming back in.
  • 4. Fully Open (Entry and Exit Allowed): Both sliders are pushed to the outer positions. The flap swings freely in both directions.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the cat flap regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the plastic.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the flap for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Ensure the brush strip is intact and free of debris to maintain weather resistance and reduce noise.
  • Lubrication: If the flap becomes stiff, a small amount of silicone spray can be applied to the hinge points, avoiding contact with the brush strip.
