Setup

Before first use, wash all glass components and the filter assembly with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

  1. Assemble the Lower Chamber: Place the lower water chamber onto the metal stand. Ensure it is stable.
  2. Add Water: Fill the lower water chamber with fresh, cold water up to the desired mark (e.g., 8 cups for 34 oz).
  3. Prepare Filter: Ensure the reusable filter is properly attached to the bottom of the glass tube of the upper globe. The chain should hang freely.
  4. Insert Upper Globe: Carefully insert the upper globe's glass tube into the opening of the lower water chamber, ensuring a snug fit.
  5. Add Coffee Grounds: Place your desired amount of medium-fine ground coffee into the upper globe. A general recommendation is 1 scoop (approx. 7g) per 4 oz of water.
  6. Place Lid: Cover the upper globe with its lid.
  7. Prepare Burner: Fill the gas burner with appropriate fuel (e.g., denatured alcohol) and ensure the wick is properly adjusted. Place the burner under the lower water chamber.

Operating Instructions

  1. Ignite Burner: Light the gas burner and place it directly under the lower water chamber.
  2. Water Rises: As the water in the lower chamber heats, steam pressure will force it up through the glass tube into the upper globe, mixing with the coffee grounds. This process typically takes 5-11 minutes.
  3. Brewing: Once most of the water has transferred to the upper globe, allow the coffee to brew for your desired duration (typically 1-3 minutes, depending on desired strength). You may gently stir the coffee grounds in the upper globe to ensure even saturation.
  4. Remove Heat: Carefully remove the gas burner from underneath the lower chamber.
  5. Coffee Descends: As the lower chamber cools, a vacuum will form, drawing the brewed coffee back down through the filter into the lower carafe, leaving the spent grounds in the upper globe.
  6. Serve: Once all the coffee has returned to the lower carafe, gently twist and remove the upper globe. Place the upper globe on its resting stand. Your fresh coffee is ready to serve from the lower carafe.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your coffee maker.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Water not rising to upper globe.Insufficient heat; improper seal between chambers; clogged filter.Ensure burner flame is adequate and centered. Check that the upper globe is securely seated. Clean the filter thoroughly.
Coffee not descending to lower carafe.Lower chamber not cooling sufficiently; air leak; clogged filter.Remove heat source completely and allow adequate cooling time. Check for any gaps in the seal. Clean the filter.
Glass components cracking or breaking.Sudden temperature changes; impact; dry heating of lower chamber.Avoid extreme temperature shifts. Handle with care. Never heat the lower chamber without water. Replace damaged components immediately.
Weak or bitter coffee.Incorrect coffee-to-water ratio; grind size too coarse/fine; brewing time too short/long.Adjust coffee amount (more for stronger, less for weaker). Use medium-fine grind. Experiment with brewing time (1-3 minutes is typical).
