3. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for effective use of SpaGuard System Flush:
- Ensure the spa is turned off.
- Open the spa's equipment compartment, locate the filter, and remove it.
- Add the SpaGuard System Flush product directly to the filter well or skimmer. Follow the recommended dosage on the product label. (The product is typically a 24 oz bottle for a single treatment).
- Turn the circulation system back on and let it run for at least 15-30 minutes, ensuring the product is well-distributed throughout the plumbing.
- After this time, turn off the spa. Allow the water to settle for a few minutes.
- Drain the spa water completely.
- Rinse the plumbing thoroughly with fresh water before refilling the spa and adding any other chemicals or treatments.
- Clean the surface of your spa with a suitable spa surface cleaner (e.g., BioGuard® Off The Wall® surface cleaner).
- Reinsert the cleaned cartridge filter.
- Refill the spa, balance the water, and resume use.

4. Maintenance
To maintain optimal spa performance and water quality, it is recommended to use SpaGuard System Flush regularly, typically every time you drain and refill your hot tub (e.g., every 3 months). This helps prevent the accumulation of unseen build-up in the plumbing system.
- Regularly clean your spa filter.
- Clean the spa surface as needed.
- Ensure proper water balance and sanitation practices are followed between System Flush treatments.
5. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues such as reduced jet power, increased chemical consumption (e.g., chlorine/bromine depleting faster), or persistent water quality problems despite proper chemical balancing, it may indicate the presence of biofilm or unseen build-up in your spa's plumbing.
- Reduced Jet Power: Biofilm can constrict water flow in pipes. Using SpaGuard System Flush can help clear these blockages and restore jet performance.
- Increased Chemical Usage: Biofilm can consume sanitizers, leading to faster depletion of chlorine or bromine. A system flush can remove this biofilm, allowing your sanitizers to work more effectively.
- Cloudy or Off-Color Water After Flush: It is normal for the water to turn off-color or become foamy during the flush process, as the product is actively removing accumulated grime. This indicates the product is working.
- Dirty Water Remaining After Drain: After draining, some dirty water might remain in the pipes. It is advisable to flush the jet lines with a hose and drain this dirty water out before refilling the hot tub to ensure all residue is removed.
