1. Important Safety Information

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the iron and all accessories from the packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport if needed. Check for any visible damage.

3.2 Before First Use

1. Remove any stickers or protective film from the soleplate.
2. Fill the water tank with tap water (see section 4.1).
3. Plug the iron into a grounded wall socket.
4. Allow the iron to heat up until the temperature indicator light goes out.
5. For the first use, iron an old piece of fabric to remove any manufacturing residues from the soleplate. Steam may contain small particles during this initial process.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Filling the Water Tank

1. Ensure the iron is unplugged.
2. Open the water filling inlet cover.
3. Hold the iron in a slightly tilted position and fill the water tank with tap water up to the 'MAX' indication. Do not overfill.
4. Close the water filling inlet cover firmly.

4.2 Ironing with OptimalTEMP Technology

The Philips PerfectCare Azur iron features OptimalTEMP technology, which means you do not need to adjust the temperature setting. It is safe for all ironable fabrics, from denim to silk, without the risk of burning.

4.3 Steam Functions

• Continuous Steam: Once the iron is heated, steam will be generated automatically when the iron is moved.
• Steam Boost: For stubborn creases, press the steam boost button. This provides an extra burst of steam. Wait a few seconds between bursts to allow the soleplate temperature to recover.
• Vertical Steaming: Hold the iron vertically and press the steam boost button to remove creases from hanging garments, curtains, etc. Ensure the iron is not touching the fabric.

4.4 Dry Ironing

To iron without steam, ensure the water tank is empty or the steam setting is off (if applicable). The iron will function as a dry iron.

4.5 Auto Shut-off

For safety and energy saving, the iron will automatically switch off if it is left motionless for a certain period (e.g., 30 seconds on its soleplate or 8 minutes on its heel rest). The temperature light will flash to indicate this. Move the iron to restart heating.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your iron.

5.1 After Each Use

• Unplug the iron and allow it to cool down completely.
• Empty the water tank by opening the filling inlet and tilting the iron.

5.2 Cleaning the Soleplate

To clean the soleplate, wipe it with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive (liquid) cleaner. Do not use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents, or sharp objects, as these will scratch the soleplate.

5.3 Calc-Clean Function (Anti Calc)

The iron is equipped with an Anti Calc system to reduce scale build-up. For optimal performance, perform the Calc-Clean procedure regularly (e.g., once a month or more frequently in hard water areas).

1. Fill the water tank to the MAX indication.
2. Plug in the iron and let it heat up until the temperature light goes out.
3. Unplug the iron.
4. Hold the iron over a sink, press and hold the Calc-Clean button (if present, refer to your iron's specific button layout), and gently shake the iron back and forth. Steam and boiling water will come out of the soleplate, carrying scale particles.
5. Continue until the water tank is empty.
6. Plug in the iron again and let it heat up to dry the soleplate.
7. Unplug and store the iron once cool.

5.4 Storage

Store the iron on its heel rest in a dry, safe place after it has completely cooled down. Do not wrap the cord tightly around the iron while it is still hot.
