1. Introduction
This instruction manual provides detailed guidance for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your BANDAI SPIRITS Macross Delta VF-31J Super Siegfried (Hayate Immermann Machines) 1/72 Scale Plastic Model. Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning assembly to ensure a smooth and enjoyable building experience.

Figure 1.1: Product Box Art - Illustrates the model in its three distinct modes and features from the Macross Delta series.
The VF-31J Super Siegfried is a highly detailed, transformable plastic model kit designed for enthusiasts aged 8 years and up. It accurately represents the variable fighter piloted by Hayate Immermann from the Macross Delta series, capable of transforming between Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes.
2. What's in the Box
Verify that all components are present before starting assembly. The kit includes:
- Plastic runners (White, Black, Gray, etc.) for various parts.
- Base for display.
- Stickers for detailing.
- Instruction booklet (this manual).
- Additional parts for Super Pack configuration.
Note: Tools such as plastic nippers, hobby knife, and plastic cement (optional) are required for assembly and are sold separately.
3. Safety Information
- Choking Hazard: This product contains small parts and is not suitable for children under 3 years of age. Recommended age for assembly is 8 years and up.
- Sharp Edges: Exercise caution when cutting parts from runners and handling a hobby knife. Adult supervision is recommended for younger builders.
- Ventilation: If using plastic cement or paints, ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace.
- Disposal: Dispose of plastic scraps and empty packaging responsibly.
4. Assembly Guide
Follow these steps carefully for optimal assembly. Refer to the included diagrammatic instructions for visual guidance.
- Part Preparation: Carefully cut each part from its runner using plastic nippers. Use a hobby knife to trim any excess plastic (nubs) for a clean finish.
- Sub-Assembly (Cockpit & Fuselage): Begin by assembling the cockpit section, ensuring the clear canopy fits securely. Proceed to connect the main fuselage components.
- Wing Assembly: Assemble the main wings and tail fins. Pay attention to the movable parts for transformation.
- Engine & Super Pack Integration: Construct the engine nacelles and, if desired, attach the Super Pack armor components. These typically enhance the fighter's capabilities and appearance.
- Arm & Leg Units: Assemble the arm and leg components, ensuring all joints are correctly oriented for articulation and transformation. Some joints may require careful handling due to their delicate nature (e.g., ABS plastic parts).
- Weaponry: Assemble the gun pod and any other included weapons.
- Decal Application: Apply the included stickers or waterslide decals according to the diagrammatic instructions for added detail and authenticity.

Tip: Test fit parts before applying cement (if used) to ensure proper alignment.
5. Transformation Guide
The VF-31J Super Siegfried can transform into three distinct modes: Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid. Follow the steps below for each transformation. Always handle the model with care during transformation to avoid damage to delicate joints and parts.
5.1. Fighter Mode
This is the primary aircraft configuration, optimized for high-speed flight. Ensure wings are fully extended, landing gear is deployed or retracted as desired, and all panels are flush.

5.2. Gerwalk Mode
The Gerwalk (Ground Effect Reinforcement Winged Armament with Legs) mode offers enhanced maneuverability and ground attack capabilities. This intermediate mode combines elements of both fighter and battroid forms.
- Partially retract the main fuselage.
- Deploy the leg units from the engine nacelles.
- Rotate the arms into position.
- Adjust the wings for stability and lift.

5.3. Battroid Mode
The Battroid mode is the humanoid combat configuration, ideal for close-quarters combat and urban environments.
- Fully retract the fuselage and transform it into the torso.
- Extend the leg units and lock them into their humanoid position.
- Position the arms and hands.
- Fold the wings against the back or as per the model's design.
- Attach the gun pod to the hand.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush to gently remove dust from the model. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the plastic or paint.
- Storage: Store the model in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration or warping of plastic parts.
- Joint Care: If joints become loose over time, a small amount of clear nail polish or specialized hobby joint tightener can be applied to the peg and allowed to dry before reassembly.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Parts do not fit together. | Excess plastic (nubs) remaining on parts; incorrect orientation. | Carefully trim nubs with a hobby knife. Double-check the instruction diagrams for correct part orientation. |
| Joints are too tight/loose. | Manufacturing variance; incorrect assembly. | For tight joints, gently sand the peg. For loose joints, apply a thin coat of clear nail polish or joint tightener to the peg and let it dry. |
| Parts break during assembly/transformation. | Excessive force; material fatigue (especially with ABS plastic). | Use minimal force. If a part breaks, plastic cement can be used for repair. Consider purchasing replacement parts if available from the manufacturer. |
| Decals/stickers peel off. | Improper application; dust on surface. | Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application. Use a decal setting solution for waterslide decals to improve adhesion. |
