1. Introduction

3. Setup and Connections

The power analyzer features two main connection points: SOURCE and LOAD. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) when connecting to avoid damage to the device or your system.

3.1. Connecting the Power Analyzer

  1. Identify the SOURCE side (input from battery, power supply, etc.) and the LOAD side (output to motor, ESC, device, etc.).
  2. Connect the positive (+) wire from your power source to the red wire on the SOURCE side of the analyzer.
  3. Connect the negative (-) wire from your power source to the black wire on the SOURCE side of the analyzer.
  4. Connect the positive (+) wire of your load device to the red wire on the LOAD side of the analyzer.
  5. Connect the negative (-) wire of your load device to the black wire on the LOAD side of the analyzer.
  6. For applications requiring auxiliary power (e.g., for measurements down to 0 volts), connect an auxiliary battery (4.8-60V) to the dedicated auxiliary port.

4. Operation

Once connected, the power analyzer will automatically power on and display real-time electrical readings on its LCD screen. The display cycles through various measurements, providing a comprehensive overview of your system's performance.

4.1. Display Readings

The LCD screen provides the following 8 electrical readings:

  • Current (A): Real-time current flow in Amperes.
  • Voltage (V): Real-time voltage in Volts.
  • Watts (W): Real-time power consumption in Watts.
  • Amp-hours (Ah): Cumulative charge transferred in Amp-hours.
  • Watt-hours (Wh): Cumulative energy transferred in Watt-hours.
  • Peak Amps (Ap): Maximum current recorded during the measurement period.
  • Minimum Volts (Vm): Lowest voltage recorded during the measurement period.
  • Peak Watts (Wp): Maximum power recorded during the measurement period.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Display Not Turning On:
    • Check all connections to ensure they are secure and correctly polarized (positive to positive, negative to negative).
    • Verify that the input voltage from your source is within the operating range (4.8V-60V).
  • Unstable or Fluctuating Readings:
    • Ensure your power source is stable. Ripple from certain power supplies (e.g., after a rectifier without a filter) can cause fluctuations.
    • Check for loose connections or damaged wires.
  • Short Wire Length:
    • The analyzer comes with relatively short wires. For many applications, you may need to extend them using appropriate gauge wire and connectors (e.g., Anderson Powerpole, spade connectors). Ensure extensions are properly insulated and rated for the current.
  • Watt-hour/Amp-hour Readings Resetting Prematurely:
    • Note that the cumulative Watt-hour and Amp-hour readings have specific maximum limits (6554 Wh and 65 Ah). Once these limits are reached, the counter will reset. This is normal operation for the device.
