  • Tail Light (Brown Wire): Connect the vehicle's tail light wire to the terminal labeled "TAIL (BROWN)".
  • Stop & Turn Signal (Green/Yellow Wire):
    • For the 440 (Right/Passenger Side), connect the vehicle's stop/turn signal wire to the terminal labeled "STOP & TURN (GRN)".
    • For the 440L (Left/Driver Side), connect the vehicle's stop/turn signal wire to the terminal labeled "STOP & TURN (YEL)".

After connecting, test all light functions (tail, stop, turn, and license plate light on 440L) to ensure they operate correctly before final assembly.

5. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed, the Peterson 440 and 440L lights operate in conjunction with your vehicle's electrical system.

  • Tail Lights: Illuminate when the vehicle's headlights or parking lights are activated.
  • Stop Lights: Illuminate brightly when the vehicle's brake pedal is pressed.
  • Turn Signals: Flash when the corresponding turn signal lever is engaged.
  • License Plate Light (440L only): Illuminates when the tail lights are on, providing illumination for the license plate.

Regularly check all light functions to ensure they are working correctly, especially before operating the vehicle on public roads.

6. Maintenance

Minimal maintenance is required for these lights. Regular checks can help ensure longevity and proper function.

6.1. Cleaning

Clean the lens periodically with a mild soap and water solution and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the plastic lens.

6.2. Bulb Replacement

These lights use incandescent bulbs. If a bulb burns out, it will need to be replaced. To replace a bulb:

  1. Carefully remove the outer lens by unscrewing the retaining screws.
  2. Gently twist the old bulb counter-clockwise and pull it out from its socket.
  3. Insert the new bulb, push it in, and twist clockwise to secure it. Ensure the replacement bulb matches the original specifications (e.g., 1157 for stop/tail, 194 for license plate).
  4. Reattach the lens, ensuring a snug fit to help prevent moisture ingress.

It is recommended to keep spare bulbs on hand for quick replacement.

7. Troubleshooting

If your lights are not functioning as expected, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
