4. Setup
Follow these steps to properly connect your Mroinge MBC016 battery charger/maintainer to a battery.
- Identify Battery Type and Voltage: Ensure the battery is a 6V or 12V lead-acid type (Flooded, GEL, AGM, VRLA, Deep-cycle). The charger will automatically detect the voltage.
- Choose Connection Method: Select either the battery clips connector or the O-ring terminals connector based on your battery's accessibility and intended use. The O-ring terminals are ideal for long-term maintenance connections.
- Connect to Battery:
- Connect the RED positive (+) connector to the positive (+) battery terminal.
- Connect the BLACK negative (-) connector to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Ensure connections are secure and free from corrosion. The charger is spark-proof, but always exercise caution.
- Connect to AC Power: Plug the charger's AC power cord into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions
Once connected to the battery and AC power, the Mroinge MBC016 will automatically begin its 4-step charging program.
5.1. Charging Process (4-Step Program)
The charger utilizes an intelligent 4-step charging program to optimize battery power and prevent overcharging:
- Initialization: The charger analyzes the battery's condition and determines the appropriate charging voltage (6V or 12V).
- Bulk Charge: Charges the battery at its maximum current (1A) until it reaches approximately 80% capacity.
- Absorption Mode: The charging current gradually decreases while the voltage remains constant, bringing the battery to 100% charge.
- Float Mode / Maintenance: Once fully charged, the charger automatically switches to float mode, maintaining the battery at optimal voltage without overcharging. This prevents self-discharge and keeps the battery ready for use.

5.2. LED Indicators
The built-in two-color LED on the charger indicates the charging status:
- Red LED: Indicates the battery is currently charging.
- Green LED: Indicates the battery is fully charged and the charger is in float (maintenance) mode.
5.3. Charging Time Reference
The charging time will vary depending on the battery's capacity and its initial state of charge. Refer to the table below for approximate charging times for various battery capacities:

Image 5.2: Chart showing approximate charging times for different battery capacities (Ah) at 1 Amp.
| Battery Capacity (Ah) | Approximate Charging Time (Hours) |
|---|---|
| 5Ah | 5.5h |
| 7Ah | 7.7h |
| 9Ah | 9.9h |
| 12Ah | 13.2h |
| 18Ah | 19.8h |
| 20Ah | 22h |
| 33Ah | 36.3h |
| 35Ah | 38.5h |
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance of your battery and charger ensures longevity and optimal performance.
- Charger Care: Keep the charger clean and dry. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture.
- Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cables and connectors for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Replace if necessary.
- Battery Terminals: Ensure battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion for efficient charging. Clean with a wire brush if needed.
- Battery Storage: For long-term storage, connect the battery to the Mroinge MBC016 in float mode to prevent self-discharge. Store batteries in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Mroinge MBC016 charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Charger LED is Off:
- Check if the charger is properly plugged into a live AC power outlet.
- Verify that the battery connections (positive and negative) are secure and correct.
- Ensure the battery voltage is above 3.5V. The charger may not activate for severely discharged batteries below this threshold.
- Red LED Stays On for Extended Periods:
- This indicates the battery is still charging. Refer to the charging time reference chart (Section 5.3) for expected durations based on battery capacity.
- If the battery is very large or deeply discharged, charging can take many hours.
- Charger Does Not Switch to Green LED (Float Mode):
- The battery might be faulty or unable to hold a charge. Consider having the battery tested by a professional.
- Ensure the battery terminals are clean and connections are solid.
- Charger Feels Warm:
- It is normal for the charger to become warm during operation, especially during the bulk charge phase.
- If it becomes excessively hot, disconnect it immediately and check for proper ventilation and clear any obstructions. The over-temperature protection should activate if it becomes unsafe.
