4.1. Display Elements

5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Insert 2 x AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and - markings).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2. Initial Power-On and Radio Signal Reception

Upon battery insertion, the clock will automatically begin searching for the DCF-77 radio time signal. This process may take several minutes. During this time, the radio signal icon will flash. Once the signal is received and synchronized, the icon will become solid, and the correct time and date will be displayed.

  • Place the clock away from electronic devices that may cause interference (e.g., TVs, computers).
  • For best reception, position the clock near a window.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Manual Time and Date Settings (If no signal or for specific adjustments)

While the clock is designed to receive the DCF-77 signal, you can manually adjust settings if needed.

  1. Press and hold the SET button until the display starts flashing.
  2. Use the + or - buttons to adjust the flashing value.
  3. Press the SET button again to confirm the current setting and move to the next adjustable parameter.
  4. The sequence of settings typically includes: 12/24 hour format, time zone offset, hour, minute, year, month, day, and weekday language.
  5. After adjusting all desired settings, press SET repeatedly until no values are flashing to exit the setting mode.

6.2. Time Zone and Weekday Language Settings

The DCF-77 signal is based on Central European Time. To display local time in other regions (e.g., UK time) or to change the weekday language:

  1. Press and hold the SET button until the top line of the display starts to flash.
  2. Press SET again until the flashing display shows '00' (this is the hour offset).
  3. Use the + or - button to set the desired time zone offset. For example, for UK time, press - to display '-01' (subtracting one hour from Central European Time).
  4. Continue pressing the SET button repeatedly until the day name part of the display flashes.
  5. Use the + or - button to cycle through the available languages (e.g., GER, ENG, FRE, ITA, SPA, DUT, DAN). Select 'ENG' for English.
  6. Press the SET button once more to exit the setting mode. The clock will now display the correct local time and the day in English.

6.3. Setting the Alarm

  1. Press the ALARM button once to display the current alarm time.
  2. Press and hold the ALARM button until the alarm hour starts flashing.
  3. Use the + or - buttons to set the desired alarm hour.
  4. Press the ALARM button again, and the alarm minute will flash. Use the + or - buttons to set the desired alarm minute.
  5. Press the ALARM button once more to confirm and exit alarm setting mode. The alarm icon will appear on the display, indicating the alarm is active.

6.4. Activating/Deactivating Alarm and Snooze Function

  • To activate/deactivate the alarm: In normal time display mode, press the ALARM button briefly. The alarm icon will appear or disappear.
  • Snooze Function: When the alarm sounds, touch the top of the clock to activate the snooze function. The alarm will pause for approximately 5 minutes and then sound again. The snooze icon (ZZ) will flash.
  • To stop the alarm: Press any button on the back of the clock (except the touch-sensitive top for snooze) when the alarm is sounding. The alarm will reset for the next day.

6.5. Backlight

Touch the top of the clock briefly to activate the backlight for a few seconds, improving visibility in low-light conditions.

6.6. Temperature Display (°C / °F)

The clock displays indoor temperature. To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), locate the small switch or button inside the battery compartment or on the back of the unit (refer to specific markings on your device if available).

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the clock with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the display becomes dim or the clock stops functioning correctly. Always replace both batteries at the same time.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No display or dim display: Check battery polarity, replace batteries.
  • Incorrect time: Ensure the clock is receiving the DCF-77 signal (signal icon solid). If not, reposition the clock. Manually set time if signal reception is consistently poor. Check time zone offset.
  • No radio signal reception: Move the clock to a different location, preferably near a window and away from electronic interference. Allow several hours for signal acquisition.
  • Alarm not sounding: Ensure the alarm is activated (alarm icon visible). Check alarm time settings.
  • Weekday in wrong language: Refer to section 6.2 to set the desired weekday language.
