3. Setup
Connecting a 1 lb. Propane Cylinder
To connect a 1 lb. disposable propane cylinder:
- Ensure the heater's control knob is in the "OFF" position.
- Screw the 1 lb. propane cylinder clockwise into the heater's regulator port until hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
- Check for leaks using a soapy water solution around the connection. Bubbles indicate a leak. Tighten if necessary or replace the cylinder if the leak persists.
For extended use, the swivel regulator allows connection to a remote gas supply (e.g., a larger propane tank) using an approved Mr. Heater hose and filter (sold separately).

4. Operation
Starting the Heater
To ignite the heater:
- Ensure the propane cylinder is securely attached.
- Rotate the control knob to the "PILOT" position.
- Push and hold the control knob down for 30-60 seconds to allow gas to flow and purge air from the lines.
- While holding the knob down, press the igniter button repeatedly until the pilot flame ignites.
- Continue to hold the control knob down for an additional 30 seconds after ignition to ensure the thermocouple is heated and the pilot flame remains lit.
- Release the control knob. If the pilot flame extinguishes, repeat the ignition process.
Adjusting Heat Settings
Once the pilot flame is stable:
- Rotate the control knob from the "PILOT" position to either "LO" (Low) or "HI" (High) to select the desired heat output.
- The radiant burner will begin to glow orange, indicating the main burner is active.
Shutting Down the Heater
To turn off the heater:
- Rotate the control knob to the "OFF" position.
- Allow the heater to cool completely before handling or storing.
- Always disconnect the propane cylinder when the heater is not in use or during storage.

- Cleaning: Keep the heater's exterior clean. Use a damp cloth to wipe surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Burner and Pilot Assembly: Periodically inspect the burner and pilot assembly for dust, dirt, or insect nests. Clean gently with a soft brush or compressed air if necessary. Ensure all air openings are clear.
- Storage: Store the heater in a dry, well-ventilated area when not in use. Always disconnect the propane cylinder before storage.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect the hose (if using a remote supply) and connections for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks.
6. Troubleshooting
If your heater is not operating correctly, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Heater shuts off unexpectedly. | Low oxygen levels (ODS activated), tip-over switch activated, pilot light extinguished, or operating above 7,000 ft. altitude. | Ensure adequate ventilation. Check if the heater was tipped. Re-ignite the pilot. Note that operation above 7,000 ft. may cause shut-off. |
| Heater does not ignite. | No propane flow, igniter not sparking, or air in gas line. | Check propane cylinder connection and ensure it's not empty. Press igniter button firmly. Hold pilot knob down longer to purge air. |
| Weak or inconsistent flame. | Low fuel, clogged burner/pilot, or cold propane cylinder. | Replace cylinder. Clean burner/pilot. Warm cylinder if very cold (do not use external heat sources). |
