Key Components and Controls

Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the DC input jack on the back of the unit and then to a standard wall outlet. The display will light up.
  2. Battery Backup (Optional): For time and alarm settings retention during power outages, insert a CR2032 button cell battery (not included) into the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Ensure correct polarity.
  3. Setting Current Time:
    • Press and hold the Time/Hour button to set the hour.
    • Press the Minute button to set the minute.
    • Release the buttons to confirm the time setting.
  4. Adjusting Display Brightness: Press the Preset button repeatedly to cycle through different display brightness levels to suit your preference.

Operating Instructions

Radio Operation (FM)

  1. Turn On/Off: Press the Sleep button briefly to turn the radio on or off.
  2. Tune Stations: Use the << and >> buttons (often shared with Time/Hour and Minute buttons) to manually tune to a desired FM frequency.
  3. Auto Scan and Store Presets: Press and hold the Memory button to automatically scan for and store available FM stations.
  4. Recall Presets: Press the Memory button briefly to cycle through your stored radio stations.
  5. Volume Control: Adjust the volume using the dedicated volume buttons, typically located on the side of the unit.

Alarm Settings

The Thomson CP284 features two independent alarms (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2).

  1. Set Alarm Time: Press and hold either the Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 button. The alarm time will flash on the display. Use the Time/Hour and Minute buttons to set the desired alarm time. Release the alarm button to confirm.
  2. Select Alarm Source: After setting the time, press the Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 button repeatedly to cycle through the available alarm sound options: Buzzer, Radio, or Nature Sounds (e.g., waves, birds).
  3. Activate/Deactivate Alarm: Press the Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 button briefly to activate or deactivate the alarm. A corresponding alarm icon will appear or disappear on the display.
  4. Snooze Function: When the alarm sounds, press the Snooze button to temporarily silence it. The alarm will sound again after a few minutes (default snooze time).
  5. Stop Alarm: To turn off the alarm completely, press the corresponding Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 button, or the Sleep button.
