1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your PCA Electronics 12 Volt DC Dimmer. This compact dimmer switch is designed to soften lighting ambiance and reduce power draw on batteries, making it ideal for RVs, trailers, trucks, boats, cars, motorcycles, and strip lighting applications. It is compatible with LED, Halogen, and Incandescent lamps, and can also be used for 12 Volt DC fan speed control.

2. Important Safety Information
- Always turn off power before installing or servicing the dimmer switch.
- Use a voltmeter to verify correct polarity (+12V and Ground) of RV wiring before connection. RV wiring colors may vary.
- Ensure proper wiring connections to avoid damage to the dimmer or lighting.
- Do not exceed the maximum wattage of 60 watts.
- If the dimmer runs hot to the touch, it indicates too much load. Use lower wattage lamps.
- If the lamp stays on when turned off, check the polarity of the power wires.
- This product is designed for 5-24 Volts DC applications.

5. Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of the dimmer switch. Always ensure power is off before beginning.
5.1. General Wiring Instructions
- Turn off the power supply to the circuit where the dimmer will be installed.
- Remove the switch or lamp you are replacing.
- Pull the knob straight off the dimmer to remove it.
- Unscrew the mounting nut from the dimmer shaft.
- Drill a 0.375 inch diameter mounting hole in your desired location.
- Insert the dimmer shaft through the mounting hole.
- Secure the dimmer with the mounting nut.
- Push the knob back onto the shaft.
5.2. Wiring for Incandescent Lamps, LEDs, or Motors
Refer to the diagram below for specific wiring connections. The dimmer has clearly labeled input and output wires.

- For Incandescent Lamp: Connect the Dimmer BLACK wire to the LED/Incandescent lamp's negative wire. Connect the Dimmer RED wire to the +12V power wire.
- For LED: Connect the Dimmer BLACK wire to the LED's negative wire. Connect the Dimmer WHITE wire to the LED's positive wire. Connect the Dimmer RED wire to the +12V power wire.
- For Motor: Connect the Dimmer BLACK wire to the motor's negative wire. Connect the Dimmer WHITE wire to the motor's positive wire. Connect the Dimmer RED wire to the +12V power wire. Use the included diode with the silver band on the positive (+) wire for motor control.

6. Operation
The PCA Electronics 12 Volt DC Dimmer features a rotary knob for easy control:
- Turn On/Off: The knob has a tactile 'click' mechanism. Rotate the knob clockwise from the fully off position until you hear a click to turn the light/device on. Rotate counter-clockwise until you hear a click to turn it off.
- Adjust Brightness/Speed: Once the device is on, continue rotating the knob clockwise to increase brightness (for lights) or speed (for fans/motors). Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease brightness/speed.

7. Mounting Dimensions
Ensure adequate space and material thickness for proper mounting. The dimmer is designed for thin panel mounting.

8. Maintenance
The PCA Electronics 12 Volt DC Dimmer requires minimal maintenance. Keep the unit clean and free from dust and debris. Periodically check wiring connections to ensure they are secure.
9. Troubleshooting
- Dimmer runs hot to the touch: This indicates the dimmer is under too much load. Reduce the wattage of the connected lamps or devices.
- Lamp stays on when dimmer is off: Check the polarity of the power wires. Ensure positive and negative connections are correct.
- No light/power: Verify all wiring connections are secure and correct. Check the power source for proper voltage (5-24V DC). Ensure the dimmer is turned on.
